Wow, kinda weird that he's pulling the plug so early.
Plenty of reasons he would including that he apparently had a kid recently. Wouldn’t blame him in the least. He’s unlikely to make the Avs and can make 3+x in the KHL and stay home with his family.

Making 3x in Russia under "normal" circumstances would be OK. In the current situation, it feels like a more dicey proposition.

Eagles light on the blueline depth now with Avs injuries and Hamilton/Zhuravlyov departures.. wouldn't be surprised to see an AHL contract addition or low key trade such as Bode Wilde

Yeah, but moving back mid-season? Make up your mind.

Not really uncommon for a lot of players. I’d say there is a decent chance he saw how far away he was from the Avs/NHL and combined it with his personal life and ability to earn more money it makes sense. I don’t blame the kid a bit.

But what did he expect? A red carpet to the NHL? He couldn't get a better opportunity to showcase himself than with all the curent injuries (and even Hamilton leaving). Why come over if you have 0 perseverance? Just a weird decision process.

Dude just had a kid, I don't blame him a bit if he wanted to go back, be closer to home and family, and make a ton more money. We don't have to automatically judge his character when he did something a lot of us, including me, would've done in his situation.

No, I don't think he expected the red carpet to roll out but look at what happened even with all the injuries. Blueline depth is not an issue with the Avs at present. If he had been a forward, it would've been a much better situation for him. There was simply no path to the NHL for him in Colorado. If he had signed with Los Angeles or Vancouver, he'd have a much better shot.

Many players leaving the KHL (and even some other leagues in Europe), believe they should play in the NHL directly or in a very short amount of time. This is a very common thing. Aman didn't sign with the Avs over it. Mironov left mid season since he wasn't given a NHL role. Zhura now too. One of the reasons we see teams shy away from Russians is exactly this.

Also, the conditions are not always great in the KHL, but it is a much better league with much better pay than the AHL.

That should be a thing their agents explain though.

comes down to perspective--you have loonies like me who travel everywhere who can settle in quickly and then you have guys who it takes longer to adapt and guys who can not adapt. It is being reported he went home for personal and family reasons--there maybe stuff going on we do not know about

this is part of it. As someone who lives in Europe and seen nearly every league here in Europe. The KHL is not the second best league in the world for ice hockey--I have Sweden/Finland higher. THe KHL is a crazy beast and gives some players self of greater importance then they should have

Dont draft Russoan players after the 1st round.

It would be the same if Kovalenlo came. Neither of them are NHL caliber players, no loss
