kind of an old post but makes you think
I really hope he isn't Matthew Phillips 2.0 for the Flames. Both undersized and lighter players. Both 6th round picks 4 years apart. Phillips with better stats in junior and never played below AHL unlike Kerins as a pro.Kerins looks like a potential gem. Nice to see
Kerins has looked far more impressive at this stage of development than Phillips did, and that’s not even accounting for Kerins losing an entire season to COVID. Phillips at the same stage was 7th on the team in point per game, and would go on to be 5th the following year. Kerins is already 3rd on the team, and has a higher points per game at this stage of his development than Phillips did at the same stage or the year after (also had a better final year in junior than Phillips).I really hope he isn't Matthew Phillips 2.0 for the Flames. Kerins is 5'10", same as Mangiapane. An inch taller than Pelletier, an inch shorter than DubeI really hope he isn't Matthew Phillips 2.0 for the Flames. Both undersized and lighter players. Comparing 5'10 Kerins to 3 foot 1 Matt Philips is very disingenuous. There is no way Philips breaks even 5'6". Gaudreau towered over him. The only similarity is they're 6 round picks, which big whoop.I really hope he isn't Matthew Phillips 2.0 for the Flames. Both undersized and lighter players. Both 6th round picks 4 years apart. My biggest red flag seems to be that he has the hardest time getting coaches to trust him for whatever reason. The year that the OHL couldn’t play due to Covid he couldn’t get into the lineup in the AHL (not too shocking at his age but still), two years later despite torching the ECHL he never really got a call up, then this year he even started off not being a regular in the lineup before this performance. Haven’t had enough viewings to see if its style of play that coaches don’t like or if its an attitude problem etc.F$$K you guys are taking what the guy saud too literal. I too hope he doesn't just become an AHL specialist like Philips. I'll give him props for what he's done this year, but we knew he could put up points.
Much like Petterson, he's got more to work on before making it to the big league.

I can't comment on the conditioning, but I was able to catch a bunch of his Greyhound games, and like you said, his skill is evident. But he was mostly a perimeter player, and if he doesn't have the puck he's often lazy. He was great on the PP, and had chemistry with Tye Karte, who I was often more impressed with. He may have improved on being a 200ft player more consistently this season, but lets just keep things in prospective when looking at the posted chart- he's no Stankoven/Bourque.His fitness (or lack thereof) has been the issue since turning pro. His skill level has always been evident. Trent Cull alluded to it earlier in the year when he was scratched for six straight to start the season. Some guys really struggle with the off-ice transition to being a pro. Hopefully the Flames and Kerins have got those things sorted out.
It's actually Ben Jones. He put up 54 lastyear and another 23 this year so far for 77 points, which is currently the most ever as a Wrangler 2.0
Sounds like he's with the Wranglers to practice and not play. My gut says this is an effort to keep him practicing daily without having to travel since we only have 1 home game in the first half of the month. I suspect after this conditioning stint he practices with the big club for a little before accepting a second conditioning stint just before the all-star break getting him a chance to pay 4-5 games before the AHL all-star breakmaybe Kylington is in?
I remember him saying early lastyear that he really wanted another taste of the NHL. I'd like to see him rewarded with a couple games late, would also give the club a better idea on if they resign him for next year. With Honzek & Poirier being our only "A" prospects there next year, they might need some extra Vet help.Wranglers pickup a 1-0 win at home in the shootout over Henderson.
Wolf made 35 saves and stopped all 3 in the shootout for the shutout.
MEP I really liked, not many others stood out either way. Coronato had some chances. Lyle is looking like a quality pickup.
Wonder if the Flames give him a look after the deadline. Only 24 years old. Good size and speed with some decent production.
Ya, I don't think he'd be traveling with the Flames for a bit yet. Even the Wranglers are home for awhile, starting a road trip on the 19th. We'll see if he gets in a game later this week.Sounds like he's with the Wranglers to practice and not play. Not a shock.Make that B2B disappointing losses. Wranglers outshot the Gulls 49-18 and somehow lost 7-4.
Seems Dansk is in a funk and they don't have the confidence yet in going to the 3rd guy (Connor Murphy).
If Wolf is up for good we'll need a depth Vet G in any trade to help out on the farm.
2 wins in their last 10 games, man the season has taken a turn.....
Sure but the single biggest factor right now is Wolf. Not a shock.
Even with Wolf they're down their top D pairing (Poirier & DeSimone) and basically an entire top line (Zary, Pelletier, Hunt) and 4 of their top 6 forwards (also Schwindt) because of player transactions for the Flames and injuries on both the Flames and Wranglers.
What's unfortunate is they're not getting a bunch of bodies back from the NHL club at the deadline so they are playoff eligible. I'd love for Zary and Pelletier to get papered down at the deadline to make them eligible. But bringing them back up afterwards would use 2/3 of our post-deadline transactions.
