Not much else to talk about for a while lol.

Anyone got preferred targets for next years offseason?
In the middle of July I'll probably do the HF Wild prospect rankings. When is development camp? Is that soon?

I'd love to swing something for Lindholm. Offer next year's 1st + prospect + Foligno. Nothing too crazy, like Rossi, but something respectable.

but there's absolutely no way we can fit him under the cap, is there? I just don't see it being realistic, financially, and don't see us being good enough to win a Cup with him, anyway.

I'd be happy seeing new faces coming up during the year- Hunt, Rossi, Walker, maybe Beckman, Wallstedt, etc., finish in the middle of the pack(or even lower) trade Zucc for a 1st .... something like that. I have no illusions that we are going to be really good till at least 25-26, when our cap gets back to normal.

His cap hit is $4.85m. Foligno is $3.1m. I think we could find a way to make it work, whether it be through third party retention or trading Merrill/Middleton.

I'd like to see Hunt/O'Rourke/Lambos/Spacek push out Middleton/Merrill/Addison in the next 1-2 years.

Just based on trajectory, I'd expect Hunt to play 10-20 games this year, full-time NHLer in 24/25 as a 3rd pairing guy. Lambos probably the same thing, but a year later.

I don't expect O'Rourke, Spacek, or Masters to do much in the NHL over the next two years. Maybe after that.

I must be really high on Spacek. I have him with an outside chance of making the NHL team with only two legit NHL caliber RD and Addison on a short leash. There isn't a ton of competition there unlike at LD where you have Brodin-Middleton-Merrill-Goligoski just at the NHL level.

I really like him as well but that is too soon, I do hope he earns an extended look into the preseason, though even that is unlikely, but they will want him getting AHL experience before they trust him in the NHL full time. He has no pro hockey experience and I assume they will want to develop him in the system for his long term benefit. I do mostly agree though, he plays a professional style game already, and with his dad coaching him its pretty obvious why, if his physical tools are good enough, he may earn himself some call up opportunities in the next few seasons.

It's a good point, for sure. Lot less depth on the right side, but Guerin always claims to want guys to develop in the AHL before moving up

Spacek is only 9 months younger than Hunt and ROR- was drafted as an overager. It's one thing to look good in the CHL, quite another in the AHL.
At this point, I have no idea(besides Faber) who will be the next D prospect to be a regular on the NHL team. If i had to guess, it would be Hunt, but for all i know it could be Simon Johansson, who looked surprisingly competent at times last year. Unfortunately, his skillset(good with the puck, hesitant physically, lacking in D a bit) is not what Dean is looking for in his RHD.

I will be shocked if Simon Johansson ever becomes an NHL regular.

We haven't had one in awhile but every so often, we will get a prospect that surprises in camp and makes a run for a roster spot. Out of all our prospects (and minus Rossi, Beckman, Walker), I think Spacek has the best chance of doing so.

Evason's obviously sour on Addison, he lost trust in Merrill, and Goligoski is only going to regress so that leaves an opportunity for a puck mover on defense.

Hunt is more a depth guy and could keep getting more experience, I've only heard good things about Lambos but production-wise, he had an alright season so some AHL seasoning will be nice.

Spacek's trajectory however it going up and up. Great production, great two-way player in the WJC, mobile, puck mover. Likely he'll still end up in the AHL but if we are being hopeful for one surprise, my moneys on Spacek. That said, I need one more season of play to officially put him above Lambos on my ranking.

Russo speculated that, for long-term specifically, the Wild were willing to go $5-6M AAV for Fiala. Guerin does lowball selectively, but I don't mind. This team needs good contracts like a man in the desert needs water, and he doesn't seem to lowball foundational guys (see Kaprizov, Boldy, and JEE), which are the only ones I'd be worried about upsetting. You could argue Fiala to be foundational, but I think there's an argument to be made that he's not, especially as he ages (important if you're going long-term with him). I think that probably makes him borderline.

Do you consider Gus foundational? I'm legitimately asking that question, I'd like to hear your answer. Personally, I'd like to see him do it for even a full season before committing big money.
No, I don’t consider Gus to be foundational. I want some high draft picks in 2024 and 2025 to be foundational. We have two more years of this crap and tbh, I thought the final year of cap issues was just the 2023-24 season. Ugh.

We technically can start going for it during the 24-25 season since we will have plenty of cap space to accommodate acquired players the following year and assuming we accrue a lot of cap during the year.

Agree with this. Spacek just plays a very mature game already. Unsure of his ceiling but his floor is as close as any of the D prospects, minus Hunt, are to the NHL. Can see him playing 40 games, then coming up in February/March and getting some games.

For me, Duhaime was the last one that came out of nowhere. He was just meh in his 2 AHL seasons.

I didn’t see him coming, either. Thought Chaffee was similar, and better. Will cheerfully admit that I was totally wrong.

Pronman's "Way Too Early" 2024 draft ranking has 5 Dmen in the Top 10, and 10 in the Top 20.
