I’d say no, but I don’t think we are going to be competitive in a big way next year anyway.
I’d rather we stick with what we have, and maybe mix in some young guys. Hunt and ROR should be ready for a few games…maybe even SJo.
I am looking two years in the future with this team, and want to act accordingly by trying to develop young talent rather than invest in retreads.

I agree. I want to see a lot of young guys brought up so we can see what they got. See who has any sort of hope so we could possibly have an option to not go big game fishing if we don’t have to.

I haven't seen anything to suggest they trust Rossi to be an NHL player.
I also haven't seen anything to suggest that they don't.

In fact, they said he had a pretty good season in the AHL and hope that he can build on that.

Scratch that, I found this:

As of now, we still don't know what will happen with Rossi's situation. Our last inkling of what the Wild are thinking came from a snippet in Michael Russo and Joe Smith's Minnesota Wild mailbag on The Athletic. "It's not that they think he's not ready," they wrote. "They're clearly starting to re-consider whether his future is in Minnesota and whether he can be a top-six center."

What's limiting his future? According to Russo and Smith, "The team feels he's too weak physically to function in the NHL and not explosive enough with his skating." Without top-tier strength and the high-end skating that can come from strong legs, Rossi's relied primarily on his smarts and skills to get points.

Or, and this might be crazy, other teams might view his as valuable too. I know, it's crazy.
But when you are in desperate need of a center you dont trade a 21 yr old who you drafted 9th overall after 19 NHL games cause other teams think highly of him

It's gonna be a long ride with Guerin in charge if they're already looking at trading Rossi because they've given up on him.

Why not? What if the player you receive is better?
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

How is Khusnutdinov doing for you?
I'd prefer to answer this two seasons from now, when he's actually done something for us, but his development has been continuing well from what I can tell, and he's one of our only true center prospects with real upside, so we're really hoping that continues.

What’s the highest caphit we could realistically acquire this summer? Assuming it’s some combination of Gus, Foligno, Goligoski, Addison and Duhaime going out the other way.

There are a lot of interesting pieces available. Hanifin, Lindholm, Scheifele, Dubois, etc

Why on earth would we trade Gus?

He’s a prime offersheet candidate. $4.28M is only a 2nd round pick. Doubt it happens, but I don’t see us able to afford that hit.

Okay but what the hell is Guerin doing here if he keeps letting go of younger RFA's who can still help this team when the dead cap is gone, in favor of bums like Foligno and Middleton? First he thought he was gonna easily replace what Fiala brought, and didn't want to have to move a couple plugs to keep him. You can almost make a case that it was selling high, but that's obviously not true. Trading Gus now would be in the same vein. I would much rather see it looks like to swap out Foligno and Middleton with league minimum players than see what it looks like to let Fleury go 60 games this season with a league minimum backup. The same way it would have been better to move Foligno and Middleton instead of Fiala last summer.

How long are we going to keep doing this? Johansson got an extension before the paint even dried on his shitty playoffs after what wasn't even three good months here in the regular season. But we can't sign Gus?

At what point can we start talking about tanking on this board again if management isn't trying to win? There are numerous options to clear up the cap space to sign Gus or anyone else we want, but Guerin keeps giving money to Foligno and Middleton, Zuccarello could be moved, Fleury and Goligoski could be jettisoned if need be. All of these guys are secondary or even tertiary factors to this teams success behind players like Fiala and Gus.

Agreed on Middleton and Foligno. Part of me wonder how big of a drop off from those two to Hunt and Duhaime (Duhaime replaced by Milne) would be. I have a sneaking suspicion it would be less than expected.

I do have to wonder if Gus' agent wants over $4M. I think BG, Russo and most fans would probably agree that 3x3.5 should be a happy medium for a contract.

Johansson's 2x2 was an easy contract. He wanted to stay here. He has chemistry with Boldy and Eriksson Ek. Brings speed and skill. Cheap contract. That's a win-win all around. Gus is a bit of a different story. BG sees that he played less than 50% of the games, often times in the "protected" spots (easier of b2b, bad teams), and wasn't his usual self in the playoffs. He's also a RFA, which gives the team more control. His agent is probably playing hardball too to show his boss (Gus) that he is a good agent.

This team will never tank unless Kaprizov/Boldy/Eriksson Ek are out for the season. Those three are so damn good that they can basically drag them into the middle of the pack.

dropping in as I have some tidbits from a guy who is "close" enough (info is 2 people removed from Guerin essentially) to Guerin that It's reasonably likely that this is true; I'm not saying it's for sure truth, but it's what I heard from someone that is close to someone that is close to Guerin.
-AZ is interested in Rossi
-Wild really really really want to draft a center
-The swedish scouts like Edstrom
-Brackett likes Moore, Guerin loves the idea of Danielson
-They're going to try and move up with one of thier 2nds and/or Addison
