Well duh, why would we be? He's signed for 2 more seasons after this one so there is no compelling reason to move him now. The entire logic of a Ferraro trade rests on some other team overpaying which typically only happens when they call you about a player not the other way around.
Also, if we were shopping him, I still wouldn’t tell people we were shopping him, because that inevitably begs the question why. A guy who is not being shopped is more valuable than a guy who is being shopped.

Worked well for Boston with Thornton

all GMs are using either double or triple reverse psychology at any given time, you just gotta figure out which one it is

Already calculated that Goodrow contract is worth 18th overall pick. So basically taking his contract = Perreault in the eventual Hertl trade as NYR get desperate to capitalize on the last years of Panarin's contract.
We keep joking about this but it kind of works

I think it works very well. NYR have eyed Hertl for years in rumors. Goodrow returns back to SJ (assuming not on his 15 team no trade list), Sharks get Smith's linemate, and Hertl gets to go to a contender. Probably add some pieces on both sides of the deal to balance out the value, but I would put them and Boston at the top of the list.

A potential much better LW then Hertl is at center.
We're not exactly loaded at any position prospect wise to be making trade calls on any non-existent surplus. If getting Perreault maximizes Smith's effectiveness, it's a no brainer no matter who else is in the system. Think we all have high hopes for Musty, but he's really the only other LW that we have organizationally that would be battling for top 6 minutes with Perreault (Eklund being locked into the other).

Yeah and we need to start looking past Hertl and Couture.

What does Hertl return in this trade if NYR pays the sharks Perrault to take Goodrow?

Ah! Potential. Where would HF be with out the playground of potential
No. Not really
Ok keep enjoying being in the basement for 30 years like Buffalo, potential and prospects is how you get out of that. Not 30 year old 50 point players like Hertl and Couture.

Given he's still a $8.137M player for 6 more years, hope to probably get a 2nd or a 2025 1st out of the deal?

Perreault + Goodrow + 2025 2nd (becomes 2026 1st if NYR make ECF in 2024-25) for Hertl.

Would prefer more for taking back more money, but NYR don't have many contracts to dump and I do not want to not retain on Hertl for 6 years.

Sets the core up nicely with Eklund, Perreault, Musty, Guschin, and Haltunnen on the wings. Then have Celebrini (willing it into existence), Smith, Bystedt, and Lund down the middle. Leaves you searching to fill out the other wing slots and then the all important defense via UFA/Draft/Trade. But out of that group of 9, you'd hope to get 5-6 top 9 caliber players based on draft position and talent profiles.
