Ok keep enjoying being in the basement for 30 years like Buffalo, potential and prospects is how you get out of that. Not 30 year old 50 point players like Hertl and Couture.
Blah, blah blah. Thank you Miss Cleo
Like Buffalo where youth movement after youth movement keeps them from winning ?
Nice hyperbole

No Buffalo gets 1 or 2 pieces for a youth movement and then starts trading away picks and the youth to bring in players of Hertl caliber and then they don't play above where they need. And they go back to square one a few years later after they started the previous rebuild.

Can't win in the NHL with nothing but youth.
Buffalo has real problems with bringing in true stars. They have problems keeping the ones they have. Who want to go live in Buffalo?

With Boston's struggles, i wonder if theyd zero in on Hertl since theyre looking like a surefire playoff team that needs centers, and the want to capitalize on Marchand/Pasta

We're not exactly loaded at any position prospect wise to be making trade calls on any non-existent surplus. If getting Perreault maximizes Smith's effectiveness, it's a no brainer no matter who else is in the system. Think we all have high hopes for Musty, but he's really the only other LW that we have organizationally that would be battling for top 6 minutes with Perreault (Eklund being locked into the other).
Gushchin?

I've pitched this on the main board before but I don't think Boston has the cap to make this work unless we're taking back like Forbert, Gryz, Geekie etc and if we're doing that Boston would have to empty their prospect pool.

Gushchin?
Plays on his offside as a RW in basically every scouting report. And even if he was a LW, nothing I've seen from his profile/output has me worrying about getting too many guys at his position. Odds are still that we're extremely lucky if he turns into even a Labanc caliber player. Not someone that I am making other organizational decisions around.

So apparently Brady Tkachuk is unhappy in Ottawa. He played for Quinn at BU.

I would give up a lot if he's willing to come here. Could the Pens 1st, our 2nd, Eklund and Mukhamadullin get it done?

I do like Brady, but I am not sure this fits our timeline. I think we need at least another year of icing a team that loses games/a high pick before making an acquisition like this, no?

He definitely wouldn't be any happier in SJ, especially if we set back the already-late rebuild by trading for him.

Even if it were enough to get him here, what would we then do with him in the next four years he's under contract? We don't have a competitive blue line nor competitive depth to surround Tkachuk with.

Similar to Florida wanting to dump Huberdeau?
Probably not but I'm not sure what the timeline was for the Huberdeau-Tkachuk deal but that was done in the offseason rather during the middle of the year. From what I can recall, the Thornton trade didn't require many calls by DW with MOC. Wouldn't surprise me that there was more talks between Calgary and Florida in the July that he was moved.

Why would we offer this?

1. He would not want to be here and lose more.

2. We would literally give up our best young roster player, and our best defensive prospect, as well as a pick around 15 and a pick around 34?

I usually like your takes but what is this

I would do most anything to get Brady in teal. We need that snarl and skill that we’ve lacked since Buster was here.
The timing is all wrong.

The Shark are one of the two worst teams by a large margin. The prospect pool has bene built up somewhat, but no one knows how well the prospects will fare.

The move for Brady is something you do 4 years from now when the propsects ceiling is much clearer and you now what the Sharks look like.

Need to get as many high picks and seem them deverlop before the team makes trades.

Otherwise you are giving away multiple top 5 picks for Brady and may still be in the cellar.

My thinking is a sure thing is better than a crap shoot. We badly need this type of player here. It’s Storm but better and nastier. Both are valuable.

There's no guarantee that Brady Tkachuk will be a good, net-positive-value player in 2030.

He stepped into the NHL as an 18 (?) year old and has remained. He is the de facto leader on Ottawa. One can hope we find that kind of player or get that kind of player. He’s that whichever sweater he pulls on.
