Jones is a bad idea but Provorov might be worth taking a flier on with an eye towards flipping him for a profit at the deadline.

We just got out of the Karlsson contract, I don't want to replace it with six years of Seth Jones. I also don't see why Chicago trades him, they don't need more cap space so why would they add futures to trade him away? I think we should trade for overpaid guys in the 6 million and below tier. Get another Granlund type player with a couple years left on the contract who could be a positive asset when he has 1 year left on the contract.

Jones would be a top pairing D on most teams in the league.
I don't buy that. Jones can eat a lot of minutes, but he does so at an awful level of performance.

Jones might be top pairing on our team, but that's because our defense couldn't defend the zone against a hospice unit team.

That’s just not true. Jones would be top pair on about half to 3/4 of teams. He’s a top 10 RHD

Zadina has had 1 good game of the 54 games the sharks have played. Don't be fooled by it, he won't become anything more then garbage.
And that's better than Hoffman, who for someone who is meant to be a shooter is amongst the worst of the forward group in terms of shot generation, high danger chances, rebounds created, etc.

Probably why there is such a demand for him, right?

If that were true, Chicago would have no problems moving him.

No thanks. Aside from the obvious off-ice related crap, his play in the last two seasons have just been awful. Don't want to trade away assets in the hope that it changes to be flipped for more.

Yep because contract means nothing. Look at EK after his 100 point season.

To change the subject from Provorov, any other 2025 UFAs we might be able to buy low on this offseason in order to flip at the deadline? That strikes me as a good investment of our ample cap space. Two guys who stand out to me are Chychrun and Orlov.

Those two are good options. I’m definitely curious what Chychrun is worth in a trade after his malcontentment has come to life. If we could get him for the Devils’ 2nd and a non-Smith/Musty/Mukh prospect, I’d do it with the plan of flipping him at the 2025 deadline at 50% for a 1st++.

I wonder if Noah Dobson could be offersheeted when he’s an RFA in 2025. If we got Celebrini this year and another top defense prospect in 2025, plus made some trades, it’s an intriguing idea.

I feel like Dobson would be a great #2 guy; target him after you have your #1 guy.

Only problem with offer sheeting Dobson is that Sharks will probably lose 2-4x 1st round picks if it goes through. He will be probably worth 9mil + and the Islanders will do everything in their power to match it. But would love the idea of Noah Dobson in teal, it would solve a lot.

EDIT:
Offer sheet compensation
$8,580,251 - $10,725,314 = 2x 1st round picks, 2nd round pick and 3rd round pick.
$10,725,315 + = 4x 1st round picks.

I would not be offersheeting anyone right now. In about 3-4 years we’re gonna be dealing with a lot of upper tier RFA and I don’t want that coming back to bite em.

I dont see the value in that honestly, unless it was to jam up the islanders. They'll have his 4M + Nelson and Palmieri's combined 11M coming off the books then, so they will definitely have the means to match anything. Plus they payment.....i just don't see it.

I see the value in OS'ing players like K Miller or Bouchard last summer, or Knies in a few years. Good players on good teams in a cap crunch. That way you can offer them 4.29M and only give up a 2nd.

There’s rumors that the Leafs would potentially part with a 1st rounder for Ferraro and I’m still a little unsure about why Ferraro should be traded. He’s still super young — and a late 1st, I mean… don’t you kinda hope that a late 1st can become a Ferraro-level player? Like, Ozzy was a late 1st… when you consider his leadership qualities and what he means to the guys in the room, I just worry they’re getting rid of one of the few cheerleaders on the team for a lottery ticket.

Except Ferraro sucks, so hopefully you can get someone better than him with a late 1st.

Mirco Mueller was young, Goldobin was young, Merkley wass young. All 3 + Ferraro have things in common and its that they were young but garbage. Guess we should of held onto all of those pieces also.

Musty was a late first too. Ferraro has been much better this year but still he’s not very good,
