There is no way any team is trading for Couture, even for a pack of peanuts. Would be ridiculous to do so. Hertl, maybe. He can definitely help teams this year and for a few more years.
I think it's impossible to analyze the likely outcome with Couture beyond this off-season until we see if he can ever play again. I agree with you that there's no way he's moving now. I'm with Jux that given this season so far, it's likelier that he ends up on LTIR or can't be traded, rather than the team using the Burns retention slot in the future. I do think it's likely that Hertl is moved this summer because his tone has clearly changed, he still has value as an elite 2C and a serviceable 1C, and the contract isn't that bad now and certainly not later in a rising cap environment. I would be shocked if his contract is moved at the TDL. more likely the draft or after it, like Karlsson.I'd only trade Couture or Hertl if a team is willing to trade us a 1st and not have us retain. If that's out there, I'd consider it. I don't see it being the case for Couture due to his injury but since Hertl's isn't seemingly as serious, I think that could be out there. Couture is now who I expect to be the guy that goes after Burns' retention expires. At that point, we'll retain on Couture to send him somewhere to compete. That way we're only retaining on him for two seasons.
Don't tease me by putting Kunin on the trade bait board
Eight years.-Assistant captaincy
-Beloved by the coach
-Played on line with prized prospect Eklund and helped the kid break out of his slump
-Fights
-North-south speed
-Took faceoffs...won faceoffs!!
(second-line center Luke Kunin)
-He does it all!!!
What can we get for him? A first?
I'd probably do that and it gives Hertl a good chance to win, which is niceWith talk about Hertl potentially wanting out would Girard, Johansen, Behrens and a 1st be too much for him?
I know this is a joke but I honestly think he's the one that gets signed long-term by Grier this offseason. I think he gets 4+ and Thrun gets 5 or 6.Eight years.
Unless Thrun signs for 5 years at min salary he is not getting any term. He deserves to be tendered a QO but he has done nothing to warrant a one way deal.I know this is a joke but I honestly think he's the one that gets signed long-term by Grier this offseason. I don't think it would be a big deal but I can easily see Grier giving 3-4m x 5 similar to what Mattias Samuelsson got with Buf. They will have an abundance of cap and will need to hit the floor, and if Couture/Hertl are done here they will need commitments. Thrun won't be a top level d man but he's already an NHL defensemen regardless already.Unless Thrun signs for 5 years at min salary he is not getting any term. Those contracts would be awful...what exactly have Thrun and Kunin shown to justify 5-6 year deals at 3-4M per year?I don't think it would be a big deal but I can easily see Grier giving 3-4m x 5 similar to what Mattias Samuelsson got with Buf. This is why I can see them giving Kunin a 3m x 4-6 deal too. If they draft 4th or worse there won't really be an end in sight to start turning the rebuild around and eventually will just need guys to sign. It's less about deserving and more about just getting bodies to commit. Pretty silly to constantly switch out 12 or so guys from game to game for multiple years.
I'm not convinced Thrun will be an NHL player going forward. He deserves another year but that's it at the moment.Unless Thrun signs for 5 years at min salary he is not getting any term. He deserves to be tendered a QO but he has done nothing to warrant a one way deal.
I'm not saying they'd be good. I'm saying what I predict will happen. Those are awful, but there are no other options. Those contracts would be awful...what exactly have Thrun and Kunin shown to justify 5-6 year deals at 3-4M per year?
I do think they re-sign Kunin and would be not be surprised to him signed for another 3 years. Thrun hasn't really shown jack shit imo and I wouldn't give him more than a 2 year bridge deal to see what he can do with more minutes.I'm not saying they'd be good. Excellent. we have lots of those. If SJ do not win a lottery, say pick 4th... would it make any sense to trade the 1st for 4/5 solid assets?Picks, picks and more picks. Oh and bedard, carlsson, fantilli
Montreal? I'd probably do it if we end up at 4.Excellent. we have lots of those. If SJ do not win a lottery, say pick 4th... would it make any sense to trade the 1st for 4/5 solid assets?
say 2x mid 1sts + 2x young NHL Ds on entry level contracts + more?
