Speculation: 2023-24-25 Sharks Roster Discussion

If they finish somewhere in the 11-15 range, maybe the Sharks can package their 2nd round pick (hopefully #33) and another 2nd round pick (maybe acquired for Barabanov/Duclair?) with it and move into the top-10 to draft a defenseman (Jiricek?) to pair with Celebrini/Eiserman. Would be quite the haul!
I'd prefer to just have them in this range and use the pick or trade it for a young NHL player. I don't think this is a draft where Pick 7 and Pick 13 are going to be all that different.

Isn't this supposed to be a deep draft for defensemen? Few good to great early forwards but mainly heavy with good defensive players. A draft where a few mid to late firsts on defensemen can truly change the defense side of the prospects.

So our forwards are figured out. We still have 11 D in camp though right?
I count 13 defensemen and 16 forwards, if we include the injured guys:

Vlasic, Ferraro, Rutta, Simek, Benning, Knyzhov, Burroughs, Pulli, Thrun, Guryev, Okhotiuk, Emberson, MacDonald

Hertl, Couture, Granlund, Labanc, Hoffman, Duclair, Kunin, Barabanov, Sturm, Zetterlund, Zadina, Musty, Bordeleau, Eklund, Russell, Smith

...

Guessing Couture and Simek to IR to start the season, Musty to juniors, Pulli, Guryev, Okhotiuk, MacDonald, Russell to Barracuda (maybe IR).

That leaves 8D and 13F. There would still be some logjams to navigate through the season, but people will get hurt and/or disappoint, so I expect to see a few more guys wind up on waivers (some of Simek, Knyzhov, Emberson, Smith) and Bordeleau probably winds up going back down at some point just due to room (and maybe he will need some more work anyway; this is less a pejorative than a recognition that he's not fully baked yet).

Russell, Pulli, Guryev are all hurt but I think they’ll all be down. Simek and Okhotiuk are both hurt as well and Rutta just got back today. I could pretty easily see us sending Thrun down because we don’t play until Thursday.

Same reason why he signed Matt Pylon Benning to a 4 year contract.

Dude has no idea what he's doing.
You have no idea what you're talking about if you're seriously comparing Lindblom to Benning.

I'm sorry but I see absolutely no reason for Giovanni Smith to be on the big club.
He can drop the gloves and play a regular shift. Better version of Gadjovich basically. We need a guy like that on the team especially if we're breaking in small soft rookies.

When has San Jose ever been a destination for marquee free agents? Why should that change during a rebuild?

Grier has been busy plugging holes and fixing cracks, so to speak, in order to raise the ground level of completion. Sometimes you give veterans a little more term, or take chances on people rebounding. It doesn't always work, but it's serving a purpose.

Lindblom has been useless from minute 1. Why did Grier sign that guy?
Lindblom was a lottery ticket hoping he could recover his skills when he was a useful top 6 forward and only a battle with Cancer as the reason his game suffered.

These are exactly the signings the Sharks should have made last year. They aren’t competing and if he does turn it around they have a cheep top 6 FW to flip for assets.

Isn’t it just easier to call him names??

Some should find another outlet. Just a suggestion.

I'm surprised to see Peterson waived. He had a good year last season and am not sure what happened...did he have a really bad camp, or did one of the rookies really surprise?
