Another week closer to trade deadline
Think some of those prices are a little rich. Don't think Barabanov, Hoffman or Duclair are going to fetch 2nds with how their production has been.

Also how do you list 15 trade candidates (including Radim Simek lol) and not include Mikael Granlund?Think some of those prices are a little rich. Don't think Barabanov, Hoffman or Duclair are going to fetch 2nds with how their production has been.
It might depend on what else is out there for buying teams, and prices, and/or how desperate teams might get, especially as the hours tick off to deadline.Think some of those prices are a little rich. Probably because Granlund is the only player with term remaining that is actually living up to the contract and could be used to protect the younger players for the last few months of this season and most of next season until that trade deadline. Also how do you list 15 trade candidates (including Radim Simek lol) and not include Mikael Granlund?
He should still be traded if we can even get a 2nd rounder for him considering it's very unlikely he maintains his current scoring pace through the 2025 trade deadline. We're stuck with Couture who can protect the younger players this season and beyond (not that we even have any young forwards on the roster who need protection).Probably because Granlund is the only player with term remaining that is actually living up to the contract and could be used to protect the younger players for the last few months of this season and most of next season until that trade deadline.
If there’s a market for Granlund, I’d definitely trade him. We have Hertl and hopefully Couture, we really don’t need him. Other than Eklund, there’s no one else worth protecting, and Hertl can do that on his own.Probably because Granlund is the only player with term remaining that is actually living up to the contract and could be used to protect the younger players for the last few months of this season and most of next season until that trade deadline.
I wonder if the strength (read: lack of strength) of the 2024 draft has something to do with it. Genuinely, with a couple of exceptions, I think I’d prefer a 3rd in 2023 to a 2nd in 2024, that’s how poorly I regard the depth of this draft.Think some of those prices are a little rich. Don't think Barabanov, Hoffman or Duclair are going to fetch 2nds with how their production has been.
And that is another reason why he won't be traded this trade deadline, that 2nd year at 5 mil is hard to eat for most contenders. He should still be traded if we can even get a 2nd rounder for him considering it's very unlikely he maintains his current scoring pace through the 2025 trade deadline. We're stuck with Couture who can protect the younger players this season and beyond (not that we even have any young forwards on the roster who need protection).
This doesn't prove that because certain crucial details are different with Michkov than it is with Gauthier. There's a deadline to sign Gauthier. There is not one for Michkov. The talent difference is also pretty large, imo. Still, getting a productive young NHL defenseman and a 2nd round pick is a good return for that sort of circumstance. Michkov would return more.
While I'm with you on that, why on earth would he even entertain this unless we're basically paying him EK money?Rumors that Hanifin and the Flames have a contract extension in place.
Bummer if true. I was hoping we would be able to make him an oversized offer with all our cap space. It's going to take forever to fix our defense at this rate.
Because we would basically pay him EK money. Not quite, but I was thinking a 7 year offer at around 9-9.5M AAV. We have more cap space than we can possibly spend and I think Hanifin's best days are still ahead of him. While I'm with you on that, why on earth would he even entertain this unless we're basically paying him EK money?
While Hanifin is good, why would we hand out a Darnell Nurse contract after just getting out of a ton of bad contracts?Because we would basically pay him EK money. Not quite, but I was thinking a 7 year offer at around 9-9.5M AAV. We have more cap space than we can possibly spend and I think Hanifin's best days are still ahead of him.
Cap will be going up to like $100M by year 3 or 4 of that contract so it's more like a Morgan Rielly contract in today's market. But I think Hanifin is a better defenseman than Rielly and will age much better than the average defenseman. We're also just completely desperate to add legit top four D.While Hanifin is good, why would we hand out a Darnell Nurse contract after just getting out of a ton of bad contracts?
While sure, Michkov would return more than Jamie Drysdale and a 2nd, that return would probably still be worse than Will Smith.Still, getting a productive young NHL defenseman and a 2nd round pick is a good return for that sort of circumstance. Michkov would return more.
I do too but so do most teams. Even if we offered him 10, he’d probably end up going somewhere with a better team for 9.Because we would basically pay him EK money. Not quite, but I was thinking a 7 year offer at around 9-9.5M AAV. We have more cap space than we can possibly spend and I think Hanifin's best days are still ahead of him.
To be honest, those caliber of defencemen rarely get to free agency.Rumors that Hanifin and the Flames have a contract extension in place.

What are the odds that Ferraro is a Shark by the end of this season? The next season? - higher than they should beLet's play a fun game.

Same exercise for Couture and Hertl.
What's the over/under for top-100 picks in each of the next three drafts?
I’ll be very interested to see what kind of contract Pesce can get this summer. In a vacuum I’d love to sign him, he’s be just about a perfect partner for Mukhamadullin. But as a defensive RHD I wouldn’t be surprised if he got seven years and $50M.To be honest, those caliber of defencemen rarely get to free agency.
It was a good idea to pay him well as free agent defencemen that can actually make an impact, but it is unfortunately too good to be true. Let's hope we can make a move for Pesce though in FA.
I would like a Mukh - Pesce pair, or a future 2nd pair Cagnoni - Pesce.
Since we're at the halfway mark, I thought i'd give a look back into these 30-seconds predictions.30-seconds predictions:
- Couture or Hertl misses major time with an injury
- Eklund gets 45 points, close to 20g
- Bordeleau gets some PP2 time and puts up reasonable numbers, but the rest of his game can't keep up
- By year end, Thrun and Muk are clearly our best D
- Barabanov nets the highest return at the deadline. Hoffman doesn't get traded due to lack of interest
- Sharks finish last by 7 points but get #2 in the lottery with Anaheim winning
Other than the first point it's not looking good lol.Since we're at the halfway mark, I thought i'd give a look back into these 30-seconds predictions.
1) spot on. This was before the injury was announced too.
2) Looking unlikely unless he turns it on, but on pace for 14g and 34pts.
3) Swing and a miss
4) Also a miss, but still chance at least 50% of this is accurate
5) TBD
6) Currently last by 5pts. Could still happen
Feeling pretty good about getting at least 3/6 of these right by year end lol
