I continue to think Chmelevski could be an NHL bottom-six forward, but I would be quite happy to send him somewhere else for a lottery ticket (I frankly don't want him on the Sharks).

In any case, Chmelevski won't be a UFA until summer 2026, so whoever gets him will have him for a year-plus.

Pretty crazy he's only 24.

I don't see how you can call someone like Chmelevski a "legitimate player" in comparison to Kunin, Labanc, and Gregor. They all at least have done something in the NHL.
this board has a weird thing for late rounders who overplay their draft status, especially those from a time when we lacked high end prospects. They become darlings and are seen with rose coloured glasses even when they play in the NHL and do little to nothing.

I agree, id be happy with a 4th/5th for him.

I've seen him far more dejected in-game than most players league wide. Definitely need to stop pushing the "Duclair has SUCH a vibrant personality" that the media also keeps eating up. Ferraro I do see but Duclair has never shown that except smiling when he's doing good. One of the many players that Grier should take scraps for.

Zetterlund and Eklund have spoken about Duclair and how he’s helped them. There are often reports of him being a great locker room guy, keeping guys cheered up, etc (he did something like that with Zadina earlier in the year). Young guys need cheerleaders and mentors and he seems to be really filling that role from everything I’ve read. I don’t care how his face looks on the ice.

So what do we get for Chmelevsky? I just don’t see him being good in the NHL, he’s had his shot… if he was so good he would’ve been on the team right now. The KHL stats are good but he’s got a lot more open ice his decision making at the NHL level wasn’t very good or quick. He wasn’t anything special in the AHL either.

Doubt we get anything more than 6th or 7th for him.

MG probably asks for a 3rd and settles for 6th

Chmelevski being nearly a point per game in the KHL just makes me more confident the quality of that league has been seriously diluted since the war in Ukraine began. Michkov will probably be a great NHL player but nowhere near as good as his KHL numbers relative to Ovechkin, Malkin, etc. 15+ years prior would suggest.

Does Granlund have trade value to be moved this year?
He definitely has value. I think if we can get a 2nd for him we do it.

Like a 4th or 5th I think

In terms of Grier's MO I'd expect us to acquire a fringe NHLer who is like 22-23 for Sasha but whose value is somewhere around a 4th or 5th round pick and who is about to be waiver eligible.

It’s probably just me, but hypothetically, If I was almost guaranteed to be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, I’d absolutely refuse to report. Shit, try me. I’ll retire..Or play double agent and make the Cowgirls lose on purpose lol
