Pavs won’t come back to the Sharks. And I wouldn’t if I were him either. Sharks completely dishonored him.
It's really sad too because other than Thornton he was the guy for the franchise. Other teams have burned bridges with their longtimers before but the Sharks burning it with their #1-2 guy was just shameful.

But hey, at least we get to hear about what Marleau's up to every week! :eek3:

There were multiple guys that were the guy for the franchise beyond Jumbo and Pavs. There's no sense in pretending otherwise just to throw shade at someone else. Moving on from someone is part of the business that people just need to get over.

I wonder if Jumbo and Patty will be able to convince Pavs to return next year with a promise that he will be traded to a contender at the deadline. We'll certainly have the cap space to give him 8M or whatever he wants. Eklund-Hertl-Pavelski could be sick.
Would love that from the bottom of my heart, but highly unlikely with the way he has clicked with Dallas franchise and that 1st line. That would be one of the best things for Eklund to learn from one of the real teal goat in Pavs.

Pavelski was drafted here, spent years growing into the star he is. He made the Cup finals here. There is more than how the management treated him. I have no doubt that MGGM can get Joe to retire as a Shark.

Jumbo didn't... And he's definitely a lifelong shark.

Unless you mean a meaningless but sentimental press release like Nabby. A lovely moment but not, I think, what we're talking about here.

If Pavs is anything like any other player of his caliber, he'll sign where he has the best chance at a cup. Dallas, or somewhere else if they for some reason don't want to keep him. We're not on the right cycle. Like Kane and the Hawks.

I agree. I don’t even think the exit was that egregious. He wanted money and term, we chose not to go that route and he proved everyone wrong. We probably did him a favor by letting him Spread his wings elsewhere

Also made the cup finals with Dallas in his first year, lol. He has become in Dallas what Jumbo was/is to the Sharks: the old guy housing and helping the young guys. He was forced out by management in favor of a loser defensemen who requested a trade a few years later. He has built a new "home" there where he is playing better than ever and is surrounded by management that clearly respects him a lot more.

He has tons of reasons to stay in Dallas. He has no reasons to come back to SJ unless it's to visit his pals.

I'm sure the 35 year old was extremely happy to have to uproot his family because the team he grew up with ran out of space and also believe he couldn't keep up.

What’s crazy is that it’s NEVER happened before in sports because it’s totally not a business. If he was hellbent on staying then his demands should have been more team-friendly. He wanted the bag. Not every departure needs to include bad blood.

Ah yes, the 8x11m contract that the undeservedly so recipient received just mere days prior was more team friendly than the 3x7m the the best player on the team wanted, who just so happened to be the captain, heart of the team, and a large majority of fans' favorite player.

I regret engaging with you every time for the hilariously stupid comments you make lol. I need to learn my lesson.

You're not really engaging because you're not engaging the point being made. Hockey teams move on from longtime players at various points and they often return. It happened with Marleau. It happened with Thornton. It happened with Boyle. It can happen with Pavelski when he's ready. Even if one shares your viewpoint on how the decisions went down that had Pavs move on, it was under previous management. Why should Pavs hold it against Grier if Grier's the one extending the olive branch for a post-playing career opportunity?

Team made a commitment to the guy 7 years younger. I didn't love the EK deal when it was made, but holding onto the guys in their mid-thirties for too long is what got us in this mess in the first place.

Marleau is the perfect example of a guy who was a Shark-lifer, didn't get the deal he was looking for and now has come back and is the ultimate ambassador for the team.

I don't get why people can't separate sports as a business from sports as a personal vendetta.

Now that the team slowly is coming back to tanking ways, I think it's time to think about trade candidates.
I would 100% try and shop Ferraro, Duclair, Barabanov and Hoffman.
I think none of them are really part of the future. Granlund I would like to keep because he has been good for this team, and I believe it's good for the prospects coming up over these couple of years.

Ideal Trade Deadline deals:

Out:
Ferraro
Duclair
Barbie
Hoffman

Up (from Barracuda)
Gushchin
Mukhamadullin/Gawanke
Bordeleau/Cardwell

In:
1st round-4th round picks (1st round pick is probably not a realistic but you gotta hope)
Young defencemen (with a team that has a bunch of them, RD preferably)

I’d love to get a 1st for Ferraro, 3rds for Kahkonen, Duclair and Barbie and a 4th for Hoffman but would settle for two 2nds for Ferraro and 4ths/5ths for the rest.

Mukhamadullin and Gawanke deserve NHL time along with Gushchin and Cardwell up front.

I still like the idea of trading NJ’s 2nd and Bordeleau for Dante Fabbro, either at the deadline or draft.

No way you trade the NJ pick until it establishes its value as a 1st or 2nd.
