Yeah, I'm glad he took a step up this year, but waiving him can only be seen as a positive for the squad at this point. Cardwell is a more useful player at 21. W. Smith is an NHL player after 30 games, despite the hysterics from some on here earlier. Goodrow is better in the lineup than either Bords or Gush right now, both of whom are great hockey players but not great or even okay NHLers at this point, and unless they flourish elsewhere, will probably struggle to be.

We just don't need Givani. Best of luck to him wherever he lands.
Probably the Cuda

I would put them both at 2nd round picks each but a 1st round pick would make it easier to pull the trigger. The Avs would have to send back Georgiev so if it was Blackwood and Ferraro for Georgiev, a 1st, and a 3rd, I’d do that.

Remove the 3rd and you have a deal. Georgiev is only owned around 700k real money by the deadline so it's going to be very cheap to dump him.

1st for Blackwood and Ferraro would be quite generous. IMO, Blackwood is worth a solid 2nd if timed right and Ferraro is a cap dump at best. I'd be content dealing the two for a 2nd at any point between now and the deadline, and I'd take on Georgiev as well to facilitate.

I might be out for lunch, but I think SJ should definately resign Granlund for 3x 6M or in the ballpark. He seems to be a good mentor for the kids and is actually playing the best hockey in his career atm. He has very good work-ethic and 200ft play. I`d imagine the kids look up to him and might develope even better with him around?

You're not out to lunch. I'd go as high as 6.5 - he's clearly more valuable than Toffoli.

Someone in another thread was asking why Granlund would re-sign with us but money talks and he's not getting that much from a legit contender.

Toffoli is a winger who took less to sign with us because his wife is from Monterey. Still his contract is $24M (4x6). Granlund is a center who is both better and more versatile. Plus the cap is going up significantly. Granlund is going to have offers worth more than $18M.

Unless these guys have fallen in love with living in San Jose Granlund, Blackwood, Ceci, Sturm, and Rutta are all getting sold at the deadline to the highest bidder.

I’m not convinced he won’t get 3*$6M from a contender, or at least a playoff team. If he’s willing to do 3 years id sign him to up to $7/7.5. Rantanen, Marner, and Ehlers are the only guys who are better (and younger) but they’ll all be $10M guys.

If he wants 4*$6M I might be less inclined. The first year of Celebrini, Askarov, and Smith’s contract probably won’t be an issue. We’ll have Eklund, Zetterlund, and potentially Walman on big raises as well. Year 2 (of big contracts) Granlund, Couture (if not LTIRetired), and Tofolli would come off the books, making cap room for Dickinson, Musty, and 2025 1st (if in NHL for D+1).

I’m not crazy enthused about this year’s mid-late 1sts and 2nd round. Unless we can get a mid-1st and then look to trade up like we did for Dickinson, I’d prefer Granny.

Same probably goes for Blackwood though he may want to go to a playoff team who will hand him the net (Colorado, Carolina, Vegas, Edmonton).

Most good teams probably understand Granlund's production isn't going to be close to his SJ numbers unless they're playing him 20+ minutes a night and on the top PP unit. Toffoli was a consistent 30+ goal scorer on contenders and solid playoff teams before signing his contract. Maybe 3x6.5 is too low but we have a ton of available cap space over the next few years and should be able to beat any contract offer for him.

I agree, unless Granlund doesn’t want to sign or someone is offering a really good package for him, I re-sign him too. He’s been a fantastic mentor and has really put this team on his back. Most players wouldn’t have stepped up the way he did, particularly last year, and I found that really admirable. He is, for all intents and purposes, our captain while Couture is gone and I’d love to see Celebrini pass the Cup to Old Man Granlund.

As an aside, I think Toffoli has been great too and I’m sure he’s a great mentor (as all the articles about player quotes about him from his past teams have indicated). I think both guys are important for the development of this team, lest we become Chicago or Buffalo.

K’Andre Miller feels like such a Grier trade to me. Down year, huge, great skater, on a team Grier has a close relationship with. He’s really young and that Ranger’s locker room sees toxic as hell — I want to see what he can do on a young upstart team with a young coach where he doesn’t have a ton of pressure on him and can continue his development. He’s another LD but… still.

No moving assets for underperforming LHD.
