Same exact draft year and similar AHL scoring. Both LHD with size, though Shakir is bigger.

If anything, the biggest differentiator is that Hunt has struggled to crack a strong Minnesota d core, where as Shakir is struggling to crack the worst defense in the NHL. (And apparently being leapfrogged by a teenage smurf in Cagnoni). So Hunt should be worth a little more than Shakir.

This board is massively overrating Shakir’s value at this point. As I said a few weeks back, no reason to believe he is anything other than a throw in. Nobody is paying significant assets for a D+5 defenseman unless they plan to play him in the NHL immediately and it’s hard to believe anybody would play Shakir in the NHL immediately when we’re not even doing that.

I’m not sure this is EXACTLY the right assessment though. I mean I agree with you his worth is likely way down but he got injured to start the year — if he didn’t, I’m fairly sure he would’ve been on the roster right now.

Because of his injury, the Sharks ended up with Liljegren and allowed Thompson to break in (all good events) — which kinda took all the available spots. I imagine that he will get playing time this year and run off with it, maybe after the trade deadline.

I still think he had top 4 potential — it doesn’t seem like he’s necessarily stagnated.

I know the responses will likely be that if he was good enough he’d win a spot on the team but Ferraro and Walman aren’t going to sit, so that essentially leaves him fighting for a spot with Thrun and Thompson, and they’ve done too much at this level to be sat for Muhk. So… I think it’s a bit of a waiting game with him.

There is no guarantee he would be on the roster to start the season. That was something we all said and wanted to believe, but was far from a guarantee. (He was healthy last year and got 3 NHL games).

Thrun and Thompson have been healthy scratched plenty. Neither has done anywhere near enough to block a guy if he were a can't miss budding NHLer, which is what Mukhamadullin would need to be in order to have value at 22. And pretty much every NHL teams has a guy way better than Thrun that Mukhamadullin would need to beat out in order to take a spot there.

He might still have top 4 potential but that's not the same as having significant trade value.

The Sharks don’t have any roster space for a D.

Walman, Ceci, Ferraro, Liljegren, Rutta, Thrun, and a soon to return Vlassic

That’s 7 D that will not be waived even if Sharks fans want them to be.

Ferraro needs to be moved.

Considering the poster, I think you are right.
Hmm, well I recall Hodge having an idle thought about it, if that's what you're referring to, but I didn't feel like that was a serious attempt to peddle Smith. I'm more talking guys who have gone on long anti-Smith tirades and such.

Yup, What ever the CBJ are asking for Jiricek is too high. He can't even crack the CBJ's line up, They just want to recoup their 1st round pick which looking bad right now. I hope GMMG stay out of this one. We already have Dickenson, Muk, Cag, Thrun, Thompson.

If they want Bords and a 7th round pick, I'm ok with but anything higher would be too high for Jiricek.
Erm.. He already got traded to Minnesota.

Walman is the 12th highest scoring defenseman and leads our team in +- by a long shot.

I think we’d be saying good trade MG if we paid the 2nd in that deal. Getting paid a 2nd to take him is a ludicrously good trade.

Definitely the best trade in griers tenure thus far.

I hope he signs long term here. I also hope ceci snd liljgren stick around for a while too along with granny. Those guys add nice stability and veteran presence to take some pressure off the kids.

Slowly, Grier is building a solid roster. Just a few guys away now.

Rankings MG’s trades in current Hindsight i have it

1- Ek to Pitts
2 - Walman from Detroit
3 - Askarov from Nashville.

Musty left off the US roster twice and now Musty left off TheBeard's top 3 Grier trades.

If youre reading this Quentin, get in here and work and become what Adam Raska shouldve become. Win TheBeard's heart.

Until Either Musty or Shakir become NHL mainstays it’s hard to put this trade above the ones that involve guys that have already paid dividends for the sharks.

Givani Smith for Jiricek is more than fair.
I mean it’s a smith so there’s that

You can’t give Grier credit for the Walman trade that was all Yzerman trying to create cap space

But how is the EK trade number one when it hasn’t produced a mainstay? Granlund isn’t a mainstay unless they extend him or Dickinson gets there but the Meier trade also partially hinges on Dickinson because the 2nd was what was moved to get him. I’d classify Zetterlund as more of a mainstay than Granlund.

If Griers smart he moves Musty for a legit right handed Dman the hold out has me concerned that musty might be a bit of prima-donna. Dickinson might be another valuable trade assets as well he’s in an absolute stacked team and doesn’t really have to play defense sell high for a power forward for Mack

Why would we trade our only potential impact defenseman for a forward?
