Glad to see both Eklund and Bordeleau forced the issue and made their way onto the team

Watching how they develop will be the highlight of the season, hopefully they make the most of this opportunity
Not sure about that yet, if all the veterans were healthy at the moment i would fully believe they forced the way onto the team, but there are some guaranteed players not ready for opening night.

Once Couture comes back we will have 14 forwards, 15 if Mitchell stays.

Why?
MG has done a great job with a bad situation. He’s turning it quickly. I really don’t know what calls for him to be fired.
If you want him gone, who would you rather?
I don’t get this thinking.
It's what i was saying for a few years now, the majority of the shark fans are to impatient for an actual full rebuild, some fans are not seeing immediate results from the change in leadership and they are being vocal.

I think I'm missing something, who is Mitchell?

I don't think Couture was the difference between Bordeleau making it or not, he would still be slotting in over Zetterlund and Smith at this point, it seems like they both legitimately grabbed these spots, which is what I was hoping to see from some young guys

Thrun seems to have done so as well, it appears the only young guy that's intentionally being held back is Mukhamadullin, but I don't mind seeing a young promising D being protected from playing on this bad of a team, hopefully he proves too good for the AHL and makes his way up mid-season

Again with just couture coming back, it means we will be sitting 2-3 forwards per night. Without Couture only 1 or 2 might be, so they are good now but we will find out just how much they forced the hands once Couture comes back.

There's no way we would have waived Zetterlund or Smith just to make room for Bordeleau. He clearly only made the team because Couture is injured but it's still a good sign that he beat out the likes of Carpenter.

I suppose so, I didn't factor in the 23 man limit

Though, I wouldn't be shocked if we waived Zetterlund, he provides no tangible value and Mike already waived 3 guys he signed and traded for within the last 15 months this offseason, I don't think he had a guaranteed roster spot if everyone was healthy

I know he has had a rough Sharks audition but he was actually a good player for the Devils. Their fans weren't just blowing smoke up our asses.

Bordeleau might be better than Zetterlund and Smith but he is not competing with those two for a roster spot.

He has shown he can’t play wing successfully so he has to compete with Hertl, Couture, Granlund, Sturm, and Carpenter. He beat out Carpenter but he is not better than any of the other 4 so with those 4 C’s healthy he should be sent down as opposed to being a scratch every night.

I don't think the plan is for Granlund to play center long term, he hasn't been a real NHL C since his time in Minnesota

In my kind Granlund is actually the emergency C while Couture is out, not Bordeleau, but we'll have to see if Quinn is thinking along those lines once Logan is healthy

God I hope so, I haven't seen a single shift from him as a Shark that inspired any amount of confidence, he accomplishes nothing on the ice so I hope he begins to turn it around

Thank god our GM doesn’t define an entire tenure on the merit of 23 or so games.

Yes Granlund could be moved to wing. That would then potentially squeeze Eklund then as I don’t see Zetterlund getting waived since he was a specific target in that trade. Smith also serves a purpose that Eklund does not. Labanc could be waived but that is a lot of money to bury. I think no matter where Granlund plays one of Eklund or Bordeleau gets sent down when Couture comes back.

I also think they have identified that Granlund is better at C and that could have contributed to him not having as good of an impact with Pittsburgh.

Do you mean Mitchell Russell? That guy's in no way a candidate for the Sharks, the only action he saw last season was in the ECHL. He's just still up due to whatever it is that's wrong with him.

I would love to know what exactly is going on there, but I don't think anyone is going to ask. Russell played two ECHL games in 22-23, then sat out the rest of the year with injury. Was a scratch for the prospect scrimmage, did play a game in the prospect tournament in Vegas, and now I guess is hurt again. Have no idea what the issue is, but it's been a long time now.

If Mitchell Russell plays for the Sharks this year, we have either hit the jackpot or we are being contracted as a mercy.

Lineup is poor. Why is Peterson not here, one of the guys who actually consistently created offense for us last season.
