This is pretty much why I'd waive Knyzhov and not demote Thrun. It's a risk but it's the best time to try it and honestly, I think Knyzhov would benefit from a hopefully extended, healthy run of games with the Barracuda, whereas Thrun's game looks more polished right now.
On the other hand, there's no reason to make this risk just yet.

Benning, Okhotiuk, Simek, MacDonald, Burroughs, and you can argue Ferraro/Emberson as well.
Literally 2 of those. Don’t know how you can make an argument for Benning, Burroughs, Emberson play the other side so not competing. Ferraro is supposedly a good leader so whatever. Okhotiuk fine whatever but no reason to waive him before we see what w have.

The thought of waiving a better defensemen because apparently(?) they must have 3 RD-LD pairs is hilarious. They only had TWO RD's even dress for them the entire year last year and you said this :laugh::eek3:

All of them

My god man. You really are dense. Would love to know by what metric Knyzhov is a better dman than honestly any of those guys.

I’m expecting a paper transaction tomorrow sending Eklund, Bordeleau and Thrun down so they can have more time to decide who they waive.

Sounds like we might just place Couture, Simek and Okhotiuk on IR and call it a day.

I didn’t realize Okhotiuk was that hurt. For some reason I also thought you couldn’t use IR until the season starts. Now that I type it out though it sounds crazy. Either way it would just be sending the three that don’t need waivers down, putting them on IR, and then calling the three back up.

Ultimately, there's not that much harm in sending Thrun down for 10-15 games and waiving the weakest of Knyzhov, Okhotiuk, Emberson in a month or so.

Or in sending Thrun down for the bulk of the season for that matter. We still don't know if he's a NHL player yet.

I wonder if Jack Studnicka is worth claiming? He's a center so we could send Bordeleau down to accommodate him.

I don't think he is. Pretty bad 4th line center that's been waived by a team with not-so great center depth.
how has Eklund looked?
Does he seem poised for a breakout?
I took him with my last pick in my hockey pool.
Pretty good. Looks fantastic on the forecheck and impressive on the PK. Looks great with the puck, but still relies on his linemates to support him. Definitely crafty, has a bit more strength, and good fundamentals.

What's to be seen is whether he can sustain the play over a season. I was going to take a flyer on him in my fantasy team, but he was drafted a couple of picks before of where I was going to take him.

Hard to tell.

Last preseason game he was listed as 2nd line wing with Granlund and Kunin, who I would suggest are more 3rd line. 3rd line was Bordeleau centering Barabanov and Duclair - which is more of a second line with Bords filling in for Couture.

Eklund will be getting PP time as part of the second unit, and I dare say he will be a big play focus of that second unit.

Eklund got his own post at the arena, he has to share with Sharkie but it at least shows what the team thinks about him. It looks like they are not finished but no Vlasic so far.

He definitely seems poised for a breakout but you gotta remember this team is gonna suck ass, so even if his play improves a ton and he takes major steps, the counting stats (i.e. fantasy interest) are probably not going to represent that.

Do you want him to sign good players to huge contracts? You realize we're rebuilding right? Filling out the roster with mediocre talent on cheap/short-term deals is the name of the game.
No I just want him to sign serviceable players like Sturm that will have a positive impact on players like Eklund and Bordie instead Shawn Burr like players who are desperate to hold on their careers to the detriment of younger players

I think what you are thinking is that you can’t use LTIR to be cap compliant till the start of the season. At least that’s what I remember.

I like that ideal world too, but this concept doesnt reflect reality. If anything we're lucky a role player like Sturm was willing to come to a tire-fire
