Speculation: 2023-24-25 Sharks Roster Discussion

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates

Fat Seravalli thinks this is a "monster job" but Grier is the worst GM in the league for turning Meier, Karlsson and Burns into two 1sts, a 2nd, a 3rd, Mukhamadullin, Zetterlund, Okhotiuk, Makiniemi, Lorentz, Granlund, Rutta, and Hoffman.

Mukhamadullin alone is more valuable than any of the players/prospects Calgary received and the Penguins 1st is obviously going to be much higher than Canucks or Knights.

And those 1st round conditions on Hanifin are ridiculous.

Must be nice to play in a location that players will force teams to trade them to. I hope GMs start realizing that they shouldn’t give NMCs or highly-restrictive NTCs to players they ever plan on trading. Those should be restricted to franchise players IMO.

But Vegas is showing that you can trade for literally anything you need if you’re aggressive enough and call the right GMs enough. I feel like doubling down on my idea that once you draft your franchise #1C, you can get everything else some other way.

Vegas even traded for their franchise 1C!

Vegas is showing the way, if you want to compete you need to push for it every year. As much as I hate em, I gotta respect their management turning every stone (hehe) every year to go far in the playoffs even it has become little suspicious how every year by the deadline there IS couple of LTIR players that magically are fully healthy by the playoffs.
To their advantage, they are pretty attractive destination so it makes it easier for other players to want to go there on their own.
They also got younger through that Hanifin trade. Martinez and Pietro are getting older and they are retooling their defence on the fly. If other teams don't want Vegas to be good, don't trade them players. A lot teams are helping them out.

For us Sharks fans it's not topical to be concerned about Vegas, Sharks need to work on their young players drafting and developing.

Ps. Other western conference playoff teams are fuming in rage from that Hanifin trade and I don't blame them.

I hope they get so angry they do something stupid like give us a 1st for Ferraro! That’ll show Vegas!!

Holy shit, did you guys realize the Capitals upgraded a 7th round pick into a 5th round pick?!? All it cost them was ~175k real dollars of cap retention. Oh and don't forget they also got 44 games of Joel Edmundson not helping them make the playoffs.

With geniuses like these running other teams, how can Mike Grier ever hope to compete?

Did you miss where Sean Walker got a first yesterday Hodge? Briere is cooking Grier right now in the rebuild.

Did you miss when Columbus acquired Scottie Upshall and Sami Lepisto from the Coyotes for Rusty Klesla in 2011?

As long as we're just naming random trades that have zero relevance to anything.
Don't get defensive now hodgy, the point clearly was one GM is completely aware of how to add meaningful assets, and the other has no idea.
