Speculation: 2023-24-25-26 Sharks Roster Discussion

2OA + 27OA for Robertson and Harley, I’m in.
As much as I'd love this, I cannot fathom it. Both of those players could likely fetch value in the #2 range.

just listened to Grier's interview. I think he's done with big pick trades. Might move 27 to move up in the draft, or to add an NHL D, but I think he knows he can get a very good RHD and #1W at 2 and 9.

All that said, he sure does not seem to think much of stenberg. He was like" yeah, good player. Historic season, I guess. competitive...." But, his voice lacked any enthusiasm especially compare to how he talked about Reid. (and he definitely talked up Reid specifically and not anyone else.

You know what, I have no idea what Grier is gunna do

I don’t think anyone in the league does…

lol you think Stenberg isn't an elite, top line, NHL ready talent. That's pretty funny.
I have not thought that this entire time. He wasn't an elite top line SHL player, why the heck would I expect him to be an elite top line NHL player right now? He is an older prospect that doesn't do anything at an elite level. He is an above average skater, but 5'11. His shot is average. He processes well, but what does that get you that elevates him to elite top line NHLer in the near future?

He's a guy (like Eklund) that will hit the ground running at a pretty high level and not really go too far beyond that level because there is not much room for growth in what he does. He has a well rounded tool kit, but none of the tools flash off the page and scream "star" that would put his value above that of a top pairing/top 4 D-Man to me.

High floor, moderate ceiling at a non-premium position just doesn't fire me up when we have other needs and can fill a 2nd line LW spot in a number of other cheaper ways.

Word coming out of Carolina is they are shopping Nikishin.

Now THAT is a guy i would call about to see what they want. he's not worth 2nd OA, but i could see a package with 9OA for him.
He's about to be 25 and was barely played in the playoffs. That's not worth 9th overall. I think he's the worst case outcome for Dickinson at this point.

he's not worth 9th overall either.
Uh, in his rookie NHL year this year, he scored 33 points, 10 power play points from PP2, a shorthanded goal and he had 94 blocks and 132 hits on the bottom pairing.

He's 6 foot 3.5, has a wicked slapper, strong transition game, plays physical two way hockey with great gap control. In the KHL he was even more explosive. And he plays RD despite being left handed. he can quarterback a PP, Penalty Kill, throws Kyle Mclaren level hip checks without putting himself out of position often

He is exactly what I want lol

You say this like his rookie year wasn't in his 6th season of professional hockey and he didn't get highly favorable zone starts. Also, if he's that good why is Carolina looking to move him when he was untouchable before he got to NA? They have $11.1M in cap space with only Nikishin and a 7D to sign and are looking to move him? Reddest of red flags.

Coach didn't like him as he plays a complex system and it is what it is. Basically he was their Mukhamadullin

For the record, Orlov also absolutely wasn't built for Rod's system and didn't fit it but they were already paying him 7.5m a year

Sort of surprised that Tuch/Buffalo would not have agreed on this deal there given he's a northern NY guy originally (though that term is scary for a 30-year-old). Guess there is another trade up candidate now looking for a winger.

If Grier got one “real interesting offer” for 2, what’s everyone guess?

I think we can deduce that it’s a defenseman on the younger side of things.

Broberg? Edvinsson?
My guess is the Blues. Armstrong isn’t afraid to pull off deals like this and I could see them being interested in pairing up the Stenberg brothers. Has to involve Broberg, they also have FOUR 1sts this draft…

This is one of my hotter takes but the one player i would overpay a little for in Carolina is Will Carrier. That man is a 4th line menace that has haunted my hockey brain for half a decade.

Having sat with the Byram trade overnight, I have found at least some sense of it. I didn’t realize when it was announced, but the total package of 4+45+Crevier was pretty much what I had gotten comfortable with as an appealing package for the Sharks to trade back. I can see the sense, if one thinks Byram is a 1D in-waiting, that Byram helps CHI more than Stenberg would. That or Grier wants more than that to move back. Or KD doesn’t value Byram quite that highly and he is the moron everyone thinks he is.
