Won’t it be mostly the same as this year. This is Makar, MacKinnon, and Rantanen’s team. Has been for a while.

I’m not at all worried about leadership. I’m very concerned about the forward group.
EJ may have been past his prime and playing 3rd pairing minutes, but you could tell everyone (including MacK, Mikko and Makar) respected the hell out of him. He's been a steady voice in that locker room before any of those guys were even in the NHL. In Gabe's first few years, it was definitely more his team than Landy's. Gabe definitely took over as he matured into the leader we all know and love. Now both of them will miss next year.

Also gotta combine that with a fact that Cogs and Helm are almost assuredly done, we will have a very different dynamic next year.

I would say it seemed like there was already some leadership void on the team. Plenty of unfocused moments until about a 1/3 left in the season. Then the off the ice stuff. Now that can always happen, but it seemed like the team just wasn’t quite right in that regard. It’ll be another challenge for the Avs next year too. Though that’s low down my personal list.

Then throw PLD or Schiefle into the mix.

Stan has made a lot of money off the Rams, Avs, Nuggets these past couple years. Our only hope is for Sakic to lobby them into letting us pull some cap shenanigans. If they’re not willing to play the LTIR game, then the window is closed.

What’s the worst that could happen?

Just not even remotely true.

It is and always has been Landys team and you're kidding yourself if you don't believe that.

That was before they realized they could just buy in bulk, with Nuke, Vrana and Kuznetsov all on the same line you could basically just start directly manufacturing the good stuff
Worked out just fine for Fogarty and Kordik. :sarcasm:

"Let's have them room together on the road, they'll be able to help each other..."

Maybe not the best way to put it. Landy is the Captain for a reason and he’s not going anywhere in the near future. I don’t want to diminish what he’s accomplished in his career.

Truthfully though, he was the first one in Denver, that’s why he got the C. If Makar had come along first and won a Norris, he’d be wearing the C, or MacK after a Hart trophy nomination. It’s about timing.

Landy’s a great captain, but I think the big 3 are more than capable of running the room and leading the team.

Again I don't think any of that is true and I think you are really understating how difficult it is to be a good Captain and leader to a team.

I actually think Nate and Mikko would be awful captains. Cale would be better but still certainly not Landy level, who is legitimately one of the best captains in the entire league.

Wasn't he an alternate captain at the 2014 Olympics over the Sedins, Alfredsson, Oduya, Hjalmarsson, etc? So when he would've been what? 21? His leadership is as good and well respected as anyone I've ever seen league wide.

I think Landy’s a great Captain. I’ve always believed that.

Looking at the caliber of players the big 3 are and how they carry themselves off the ice, I have no reservations about those 3 leading this team. I’m surprised some have concerns about that.

The talent level this team put out there in the playoffs was sub optimal to say the least. I didn’t see any effort issues, or anything that would lead me to believe that the top players aren’t special leaders in their own right.

Good point.

I can see MacFarland bringing back EJ and maybe Cogs (highly doubt after his neck injury to play one more year) for one year to deliver some guidance.

But this team is now fully Makar´s, Mac´s and Rant´s team. I dont know if we get a new captain or if we are going with 3 A´s next season, but those 3 are the full-time-leaders from now on.

No it would be Landy regardless

I think their success has a lot less to do with their leadership group and a whole lot more to do with them not having a f***ing second line center.
