This RyJo deal also gives the Avs ability to make a move at the trade deadline. Getting a potential 2C for only 4 mill and not giving up assets

We still miss a top 6 winger.

Available targets on the UFA market:

Kane
Tarasenko
Killorn
Bunting
Zucker
Domi
Basbashev
Tatar
ERod
Kerfoot (?)

LA will be very interesting to follow in the next 1-2 years. Great team, great 2-way centers, great start of a rebuild, great team story, great progession... no playoff success. Rebuid not going as well as anticipated... doubt creeping in... Defense isn't enough to win championship in today's NHL, lets bring in offense (Fiala, PLD)... at some point it changes the DNA of a team. Danault specificallt left Montreal because he didn't want to be a 3C. He delivered EVERYTHING asked of him and more. No effing way he'll take it well if he's pushed back to 3C again. NO WAY. Leaders are aging and rebuild isn't providing the expected transition. So where is this going to end ? Success or in the wall ? Very interesting to see how this will unfold. But definitely not the way it was supposed to happen. And again a proof the defense alone can no longer win championships in today's NHL.
I think they got impatient as many teams do when they start a rebuild. Then they get the idea in their head that they were further along then they actually are and started adding pieces when they should stay the course and keep building. All it takes is 1 or 2 things to go sideways and they just end up a middling team who keep spinning their wheels.

I said it with the Maple Leafs when they hired Babcock - it was a colossal mistake, they needed to stay the course and continue to be shitty. Can you imagine that team if the year after they drafted Matthews 1st overall - they would have finished near the bottom and would have been in a position to draft Heiskanen or Makar ?

With Kopitar on the last year of his deal but still playing at a reasonably high level, you have to think that he's going to be getting Sakic 1 year deals until he decides to retire. I'm not sure Danault would be extremely pissed though - he got his pay-day so if he's playing #3C, not sure he cares, he's still getting paid but I could be wrong though.

If he wanted out, he'd be the ideal guy for the Avs to jump on for sure.

Perry actually could be quite good on the 4th line. His Finals loser curse better be over with Tampa losing to Toronto though. Corey F***ing Perry is not allowed to be the man who comes and ruins our 100% record in the Final

Adin Hill 2 years - $4.9M with vgk - wowsers

Mark Stone's back probably going back to LTIR...
Assuming Lehner is LTIR, they have mid 3s in cap space with one guy to sign. If they buyout Lehner, put that a touchy under 3.

With what assets are we going to pull something like that off?

Please. They have all their 1st still (and seem intent on keeping them), Girard/OO (what little value he has left)/Newhook (what little value he has left). If CMac wanted to, he could make something work.

But I assume he thinks it’s more important to have a bottom 6 forward that may or may not bust on a rookie contract sometime in 2025-26, then to truly augment the current team. He’s probably delusional enough to think this contention window is going to last beyond the next 2-3 years.
