Having Annunen as the backup isn‘t even an upgrade from JoJo I don’t think.

In my limited viewings of Annunen, I would tend to agree. He's never looked good to me other than his WJC performance for Finland. Anything at the pro level, he seems extremely slow and vulnerable. I don't see much there.

Not against moving away from Frank as a backup as $2m is too much for him (and closer to 2.4m when you account for having to call goalies up for his injuries)... but Annunen is not the answer.

I’ve never played goalie in my life. But I think my post to post movement isn’t that far off Annunens.

Dump Francouz for whatever draft pick you can acquire and sign a UFA goalie for ~850K. There are going to be a TON of goalies available this Summer in that price range:

Halak
Greiss
Stolarz
Rittich
Elliott
Stalock
Delia

Even guys like Reimer, Talbot, and Nedeljkovic will be available and might not cost as much as Francouz does.

It's the wise move to make. If Georgiev goes down it's not like Francouz is leading us to the promised land anyways.

Stalock and Stolarz are absolutely worth a look. Elliott and Reimer should retire if they know what's good for them. Halak and Greiss are definitely nearing the end and not very good but they're probably still worth a look.

Big Save Dave...f*** that.

I personally don't think the Avs will go down the path of dumping Frank. Pretty wishful thinking for an organization that is loyal to a fault. It would be an easy ~1m to clear though.

Agreed.

If you're going to take that risk, you put the player in the best possible chance to succeed and that's next to the guy he has clicked with the best in his entire hockey life.

A Lehky, healthy Landy, or clean Nuke would be perfect compliments to those two.
$1M at most and as low as a PTO. He's about as much risk as Yak or Nuk, the former left no lingering effect when he busted.

Teams like Arizona or Detroit who can use a good backup and have cap space, but have 3s they are wanting NHL time for wouldn't mind Frank. I'd very much doubt that the Avs are even thinking of moving Frank though.

I strongly disagree with this statement.

Hardest to get:

Elite 1D - Check.
Elite 1C - Check.
Capable Goalie(since 80% of goalies suck today) - Check.

You really think acquiring a 2C and some bottom 6 forwards are the hardest pieces to acquire? Now, 2Cs don't grow on trees, but surely easier to attain than the key pieces we already have.

That's the frustrating part for me. We HAVE the hardest pieces to acquire. Any GM would love to get a team with the hardest pieces already solved. CMac simply needed to give this team a chance at the TDL, and he did nothing of the sort.
This. I don't get how anyone can be an apologist for CMac, as if he didn't know about what would happen with Landeskog. Just LTIR him til the PO's problems solved. It wasn't hard, he just f***ing blew it 3-4 times starting at the draft, free agency, season and trade dead line.

Not an ideal first choice, but thoughts on Tyler Johnson with some retention? Dealt with a high ankle sprain in the fall, but seemed fine on the back half of the season despite games having no stake.

cc @Hasbro Jr -- just checked, he hasn't grown in the past hour.

Time to move on from Francouz and have Annunen backup, save another 1M there. Guy can never stay healthy.
I’d grab a league min old dude (Elliott type situation) but ya Frankie costs too much for what he brings.

Ya all the aggressive cut throat cap clearing moves we want aren’t happening (frankie MacDermaid). If we’re lucky one of our actual good players gets moved in a hockey trade (salary in/out).

What’s Drouin’s deal? Seems attitude and work ethic related. He looked good at points for the lightning even the habs in spurts. Habs play a style that he doesn’t really mesh with.

Small, soft, not a good skater, doesn't shoot the puck... when he does it is a weak shot. More than that right now, the dude's confidence is nonexistent. He might get a spurt or two as a PP specialist to finish up his career, but he's not a legit top 9 NHL player at this point.

I wonder if Buffalo would have interest in Frank in a possible Mittelstadt/Girard deal.

Levi is the future for them but they probably wouldn't mind getting someone who's solid that can split starts with him until he's ready for the full starters role.

Girard + Frank for Mittelstadt + Luukkonen. I dunno if Luukkonen is the solution for our backup but he would save up $1.2M in space over Frank and if we shelter him well enough he could be fine.
