What you missed is that both were out of left field in terms of buzz around the moves. Who was really talking about a potential Burakovsky to the Avs as a possibility before it happened?

The point you're making is related to similarity of circumstance, which is something else.

Actually I remember plenty of talk prior. He was definitely on the market.

I don't mean in the media either, I mean here, as a possible underrated target.

Toews was out of left field for everyone if I remember right.

I’d say trade Girard for a 2C, then use Landy’s LTIR to bring in depth up front and blue line 3rd pair.

Build a big physical 3rd pair to go along with Makar,Byram,Toews, Manson in case you have to go through Vegas to win the cup. Match their physicality

If you can get Lindholm for example giving up Girard, 1st and whatever else, then one or two bottom 6ers with grit, and big physical 3rd pair, you’ll have no problems matching up with Vegas.

Mack vs Eichel the star matchup….. check
Lindholm vs Karlsson, defensive 2C….check
Nuke, Lehky provide the two way game on wings, and then you have physical bottom 6 and 3rd pair.

Go get the cup back!!!!

You do realize that CMac was just as much the GM in 2015 as he is now, right? He and Joe have been, and continue to be, along with Bednar, a team making decisions on personnel. IDK why now people suddenly have lost faith in the same group a year after winning The Cup.
Yeah it's weird how some people focus on the single person that is GM in name to get all the credit or all the flack.

I'm with you, not much has changed apart from CMac 'officially' becoming the GM. I believe Sakic and all the others who were part of the decision making process are all still there doing the same thing.

I disagree with whoever suggested that the Avs won't be in on something big. Whether it's Lindholm, Dubois, Kuznetsov, Nelson or other - I think that the management team realizes that the time is now and they can't be left out with a big huge hole at #2C for another season.

I remember Burakovsky being mentioned several times throughout the season with basically no other team stepping up to give the Caps anything of value. Then when the trade came down - my buddy was like "oh I don't think you're gonna like this... a 2nd and a 3rd for Burakovsky"... which I thought was really steep for him with what he had proven at the time.

Turned out to be a bargain for the production he provided the Avs. Letting him walk as a UFA was the right call though.

We'd been linked to him prior to the trade though? Here, Lebrun linked us the TDL prior to acquiring him.

How substantial could the interest from other teams have been given what the Avs gave up for him?

I remember joe sakic with the moniker sleepy joe. Cmac in his introduction as gm also said he would still continue to bounce things off joe

Any interest in Couture at 50% retained?

Four more years at $4M AAV (assuming Sharks would retain 50%, which I doubt they would, it's $14M for the Sharks to absorb) for a 34-year-old. Seems like he's on the wrong side of the aging curve. Sharks don't have a reason to get rid as it's not like a Vancouver situation where they are desperate for cap space as they're going to do a rebuild.
