Hmmm, and what would happen if JT2C is the 2C to the start the season?

I mean… I don’t think that’d be awful. If they found a way to get Sharangovic I think the forward cores would be much improved.

Sharangovic-Mack-Lehk
Nuke-Hayes-Mikko
xxx-Laughton-LOC
xxx-Meyers-xxx

Hayes at 3.5 would add some big flexibility to add some depth pieces in the off season and deadline.
To add to this, I’m sure the Philly C combo would cost more than Newhook and a 1st, but make that the base plus futures as needed. Would be a decent start to the off season imo. Than base a Govic trade around OO+ if possible?

Govic(3.5)-Mack-Lehk
Nuke-Hayes(50%)-Mikko
xxx-Laughton-LOC
Foudy-Meyers(900k)-xxx

Toews-Makar
Byram(4.25)-Manson
Girard-xxx

That roster there comes in at 78.9, roughly 4.5mil in space with a LD( Girard most likely) able to be moved for depth pieces and/or picks/prospects. I’m sure the trade values are off but that would be an ideal way to sort the C problems out that’s for sure.

Colorado Avalanche

Avalanche fans have been clamoring for this one. Sharangovich is a classic Avalanche target as a forward with offensive abilities that can be enhanced by a lineup that features Nathan Mackinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar. There’s a lot more opportunity for Sharangovich to succeed in the Avs lineup. Gabriel Landeskog is missing a second full season in 2023-24. After Artturi Lehkonen on the left side, Colorado’s left-wing depth chart is rather thin. Sharangovich could certainly become an upgrade over Evan Rodrigues and would give Colorado two strong two-way wingers on the left side.

The bonus for Colorado with Sharangovich is he’s versatile. Sharangovich can play any forward position with experience at all three. The Avs have been in pursuit of a 2C. His mold is more that of a winger and his ceiling as a center might be on the third line, but beggars can’t be choosers as the Avs are lacking draft capital they could possibly offer via trade. They do own their first-round picks for the next three seasons, however. That could net them a legitimate 2C in the right trade.

The Avalanche have a history of acquiring players that have been pushed down the depth chart. They did it with Andre Burakovsky who is cut from the same cloth as Sharangovich. It seems like a natural fit if they can put together the right trade package.

The guy writing that is a jerk. "The move Avs fans are clamoring for"? And even if not, Avs fans have to be on board with this because "beggars can't be choosers".

It's also kind of paradoxical to cite instances of the Avs buying low as he's talking about all the would be suitors. Toews and Burakovsky were relatively quiet/stealthy, unlike what this is turning out to be.

Toews was out of nowhere I’ll give you that. But the Burakovsky trade was basically the situation as the one with Sharangovic. Got pushed down the lineup due to Palat and Meier(Vrana for Bura) and being the excess on the roster. That off season there was a huge discussion on who was going to be moved between Vrana and Bura.

I say go the Vegas route. LTIR Manson and Landy til game 1.

Get good depth versus big swings. Get the best option at 2C you can then make the bottom 6 to be the best in the league.

What you missed is that both were out of left field in terms of buzz around the moves. Who was really talking about a potential Burakovsky to the Avs as a possibility before it happened?

The point you're making is related to similarity of circumstance, which is something else.

They rolled the dice last year on his with similar numbers in 21-22. I wouldn't doubt the Avs' willingness to continue to put their young guys in positions they want them to be in. They did it for years with Compher and Jost. They did it with Duchene, ROR, Statsny, and Wolski... and that's just at center. Sometimes it has worked, others it hasn't. They do show they organizationally will force the issue until they just can't anymore.

On CMac... give me a second year. If he Fs up again, then I'll join the can his ass group. But frequently 1st year GMs are incredibly passive and learn from that mistake. Gonna hope he's doing just that.

You could be right. But I'll make a case why I don't think Colorado will make the same mistakes of yesteryear:
  • Last summer, if rumors are to be believed, MacFarland at least tried to move Erik Johnson to free up space for a 2C
  • But riding the high up the Cup win, it probably wasn't hard for management to talk themselves into Alex Newhook after Option A fell through
  • After all, Newhook had a decent rookie year, and the rest of Colorado's top-6 forward group was (seemingly*) in tact
Compare that to now, with the team coming off a disappointing season and Newhook already having failed as a potential 2C option. Newhook's production stagnated, and I'd argue overall he took a step back considering he had a bigger role early on, only to see his ice time diminish by the end of the year.

Personally, all year I kept seeing parallels to last off-season and the 2018 off-season. So let's go back in time and discuss Compher and Jost (and Kerfoot).
  • Colorado went into 2018 with Duchene, but no one really faulted them for not replacing him in-season given the team's rock bottom expectations
  • However, when it was clear the Avalanche were building something, the team errored the following off-season by spending their money on Calvert/Cole/Grubauer in favor of a 2C
The result was the infamous "kid line" season. But after living through that, management corrected course the following off-season by adding Kadri (and I remember them also being linked to Horvat/Nelson).

I'm expecting, or am at least talking myself into, a repeat of history. The Avalanche have generally righted their wrongs, the exception being several frustrating years of lackluster 3C options...

Still can't wrap my mind on how much money Klingberg lost by turning down a 7M X 8 contract offer from Dallas last year just because he wanted 8M X 8.

He ended up signing 7M X 1 and now he's old and no longer good, he's going to take a major paycut and won't even get term.

This is the worst contract decision I've ever seen from a hockey player. He will end up losing well over 35M because he wanted 8M more over 8 years, a paltry 1M a year. Dumbass.

And just think how beneficial for the Avs if Dallas would have locked him up long term!

Desperate Cmac move:

Laughton and Hayes (at 50%) for Newhook and 1st 2023.

If we're going to do a sign and trade with Toews Florida is a good destination. I'm pretty sure he'd say yes.
We would get back a lot if we traded a signed Toews. I would expect a Goodie and some other top six player back.
