Still can't wrap my mind on how much money Klingberg lost by turning down a 7M X 8 contract offer from Dallas last year just because he wanted 8M X 8.

He ended up signing 7M X 1 and now he's old and no longer good, he's going to take a major paycut and won't even get term.

This is the worst contract decision I've ever seen from a hockey player. He will end up losing well over 35M because he wanted 8M more over 8 years, a paltry 1M a year. Dumbass.
And that was Dallas with no state tax lol

Unfortunately Hench is right, trading Toews could slam the window shut. I don't think they're going to do it.
Byram needs more ice time now. Unless you drop Toewa ice time and stuff. I could see that

Yeah, he muscled up and got slow
that and Pratt's coaching has set him back. Remember how good he was when he first got here ?

Couturier is a bandaid. He’d fit right in.

It would be amazing if they got Coots and he actually came back healthy. More Avs style would be for them to acquire him, he’s rusty to start, but finds his footing and looks every bit the Selke winner he is. Then, while helping MacK with the chickpea pasta, he slips on a lone meatball and fractures his everything

People can’t really compare our management to the Knights because we don’t have the financial support of ownership in the same way that they do. You think Sakic and CMac wouldn’t spent 10 million over the cap if Stan and Josh allowed them to?

But with ltir and insurance the avs wouldn't be spending 10M more. They'd be spending the same amount with insurance covering it.

Also how come the insurance companies are actually paying Stone's contract while he's on pretend IR?

Or am I not understanding how the IR insurance works?

CMac has the luxury of multiple top 4-5 picks on this team over the last decade to bring in elite talent. And he still f***ed it up. Vegas started from scratch.

Comparing Vegas management to the one currently run by CMac now is a joke.

Do people not think the Kroenke's would spend over? They've pretty clearly shown that they'll spend money.

You know McFarland was hired in 2015 right? Are we retroactively putting blame on him? If that’s the case, he really screwed up when the Nordiques/Avs went through that phase of drafting goons high in the draft instead of talented players.

I'm pretty damn sure they have a green light on spending money. Not like Arsenal is being cheap on the transfer market these days.

I think the Avs can spend money, but the money has to have a legit purpose and possible return. They can't just spend to spend. IE Avs can't get a new practice and training facility until they can team it up with real estate venture.

This.

I think people get blinded by the fact that the Avs have been fortunate enough to draft 29, 8, 96 and 92 all in the top 10 of the draft. Also have 4 who looks to be solid and on the up swing.

When you have that kind of success in the top 10 of the draft it's easy to hide the mistakes and shortcomings.

If we take a look at drafting non-first round, extremely poor. Amongst the worst in the league.

Trades have been solid in the offseason. Honestly this is what has actually made us competitive. If we didn't pull off some of the better offseason trades in the league we'd be very screwed.

However trade deadline has been a complete failure most years, expect in '22 when we won the Cup. You'd think they'd learn from what they did in '22 by being aggressive. But resorted back to dumpster diving in '23 when actually needed some help. And then proceeded to shit the bed against Seattle round 1.

UFA has been poor. Very rarely do they make a quality UFA signing. One could argue that Nuke was the best in a long time, and honestly that was pure luck. Giving a league minimum shot to a guy who only was getting one more chance. Having it turn out the way it did was great but very unexpected.

In terms of Vegas, they got a bit fortunate with the expansion draft. But after that they've been aggressively doing whatever it takes to find success. Their owner and management want to win and will do what it takes to get there. Not sure our owners are on the same page as this.
