Laughton will cost a lot to acquire but would be such a great addition. He’s loved off the ice too. Apparently he’s like the funniest person in the world.

Ugly situation unfolding in Winnipeg. Everyone wants out and that team simply can't afford to go through a rebuild and not have fans show up to games right now.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't their owner like the richest guy in Canada?

It came out today that Helleybuck has told the Jets he absolutely will not sign another contract with them(Or any Canadian team), so he's gone along with PLD. Lots of speculation that Wheeler and Scheifele want out as well.
And Bowness went public with his disgust at the players.

When the team moved out of Atlanta we heard all this revisionism that fan support never was and would never be a problem now they can’t sell a rebuild.
What a weird take.

Players would love to come to the Avs. Not many are willing to take a hometown discount because there aren't many players from Denver and there isn't any tax advantages or big city lights. But to state no one wants to come here is simply untrue. The Avs would be high on most free agent lists, but money talks and they usually aren't one of the highest bidders.
Not baseball pitchers were talking about.

Guys sure as hell like staying here. Look at players like Peyton Manning and Pierre Turgeon who spent the bulk of their careers elsewhere but ended here and never left.

Doesn’t mean he will fund the org’s losses. They’ve already pushed the message to fans that if they don’t support the Jets, the team may not survive. They did this in April.

If he’s willing to extend I’d go for it but I wouldn’t even bother without one. Also not super worried about price for him. He wants 9m but I highly doubt he gets that.

Perhaps. And no way on 9M. Being that he's an RFA in a tight spot and not a pending UFA (like Horvat), 8.5 is the ceiling and it should be less. He shouldn't have the leverage that Horvat might.

But it feels like there's going to be a lot of nonsense with this process that might rival "The Decision" in being cringeworthy.

Mittelstadt and Laughton could be a good combo as well

True. And assuming the move G in said Mittelstadt trade, they would have cap space to go after a good winger as well.

Lehky - Mack - Mikko
???? - Mittelstadt - Nuke
Newhook - Laughton - ????
???? - Meyers - LOC

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
???? - Malinski
Hunt - MacDermid

George/Frank

~roughly $11M in space for the remaining 4 roster spots.

Meyers as 4LW, David Kampf as 4C, Engvall as 3RW, "splurge"on 2LW

Mittelstadt has had one decent season after several underwhelming seasons. His past season might easily be an aberration where he now back slides.

Fatty could easily backslide and not replicate what he did this year. Wouldn't be the first or last to have a career season at his age and it not continue.

On the underwhelming part, depends on how you really look at it. His tenure under Krueger certainly was underwhelming. Absolutely zero debate at all there. Context is also kinda important there too... there wasn't a single young player that did well under Krueger. People were going to the Dahlin is a bust narrative... now he's back to a top end young player. Thompson was a bottom 6/fringe 4th liner and now he's a top end center. Strictly my opinion, but I think those Krueger years in Buffalo should be a pass for anybody playing there. Too many players have broken out after.

Now what has happened with Mittelstadt over the years was a guy that showed promise and flashes, but could never get over the hump. When he got sent down to the AHL prior to the pandemic, he took 5-10 games to get going, but after that he was the best player in the AHL prior to the shutdown. The return year, he got hurt early, took a while to get on track and pretty ended strong. 21-22, he got hurt three times early in the season and just never got going. Last season was his first healthy year. You could see he was tentative and afraid to start the year and get derailed with another injury... once he got comfortable (and was taken off a line with a boat anchor), he took off. But only one full season in his career is a worry... kinda two if you count his rookie year being close enough with missing 5 games. That's a pretty major concern IMO.

So the TLDR of this, I'm much more concerned about his injury history than his level of play dropping.

Too much. Very rarely do teams give up a 1st for a 3rd line C. It's happened before (Gaustad) but it's very rare.
These types of bargain contract players have gotten 1sts over recent years. 27 makes sense given how teams have handled similar players in the past.

A very late 1st rounder definitely isn’t too much for an impact 3C on a very good contract with term. Most contenders will be in on this guy.

27Th + Something for Laughton and Wade Allison
I know his value is low and he just signed in Modo for a couple of seasons but Philly had interest in Sampo Ranta before. Perhaps they’d offer him a full time NHL spot. I’d do 27th + Ranta for Laughton. If we could snag Allison out of the same deal I’d be really happy.

What’s Allison’s potential ? I’ve seen a few posters talk about him before
