It's not like there's many options if we want to bolster our right shooting defenseman. There's Dumba, Bear and Foote available. That's it for UFAs. Dumba isn't happening. And I'd rather take a flyer out on the 6'4 24 year old vs the 5'11 26 year old.
Agreed but I'd rather just give guys like Malinski a shot, than pay for another dman that has gotten shots and done nothing with them.

24 year old 6'4" guy that is a free agent should tell you all you need to know. If was producing at all he wouldn't be an unsigned free agent based on age and size.

I was impressed with Foudy last year to be honest. I thought he showed some real good potential and was solid in both zones.
I hope he gets a long look, one of the only call ups last year that really looked like he might have something.

If we aren't bringing in anyone else, I'd kinda prefer the idea of Foudy over LOC on the 3rd line with the mayhem rangers. I feel like LOC losses his way whenever he is required to play the increased minutes. Keep him on the 4th and he'll still get to eat all those PK minutes our 3rd line feeds him as well.

I'm not really fond of putting all of our eggs in the Malinski basket. If he doesn't pan out, then we'd have to find a trading partner and RHDs are always very expensive. Then when you take Manson's health into account, it's an even bigger need. I don't want to burn out Makar half way through the season again.

I like Malinski a lot but I don't think he should be penciled in the lineup for opening night. He should earn his spot. He will have plenty of opportunity throughout the season to show the Avs if he is ready. I'm sure Manson and Makar will miss games and he can be our first call up.

Why 4 years? Does DeBrincat think he's Matthews or something?

Not sure it's smart to bet on himself, IMO he has overproduced so far and should have banked on that.

We'll see.
Maybe it was Detroit that didn't want to give him term? Yzerman is known for being allergic to term, and I think in a recent interview he even stated as such. With the exception of Larkin, the longest deals he has signed in Detroit have been 5 years for Copp and Compher.

That's a really smart contract from DeBrincat. He'll get to cash in again in 4 years when the cap is a lot higher.

I also like it for Detroit though, because that's a pretty reasonable cap hit for 4 years.

Good deal for both sides really.

Small goal scorers tend to regress quicker. Detroit took that risk away, especially with how that should be in the midst of their window.

Ya its good for both. But it's a bit better for Detroit since it's all prime years and also reasonable AAV.

Sure, I understand that and agree. But that doesn't mean go offer a contact to a guy that has been generally bad throughout his career just because his dad was good when he played for us.

We'd be better off trying to find another Jack Johnson type trade. A vet on a lower money deal for a prospect.

Well it's also good for DeBrincat since he'll be a UFA when he's 29 and the cap is close to $100M. If he's still a 35+ Goal scorer he's going to get $8M+ probably on a 6-7 year deal.

The real loser will be whatever GM signs DeBrincat that summer. But as long as his game doesn't completely fall off over the next 4 years someone will give him a big contract again in 4 years time.

Nice move for the Wings, unfortunately. About time they get some help for Compher.

Dorion is so bad. So so bad.
