I wouldn't be concerned with it being at $4m because if there is a longer term attached, that's what it will be. I'll be surprised if it is 6 or 7 years and isn't over $4m. Colton is 1 year from UFA, has the looks of a 20-20 player (though fell a tad short both seasons) as a 3rd liner, shows versatility and grit... pretty much like Zacha showed prior to a bigger role here. His contract was 3.5m last season. So figure 3.5m for next year, then 4.5 for any year following is roughly market rate. Debatably Crouse's 4.3m is a comparable too.

IMO the most likely deal is either a short-term ~3 year deal in the mid to high 3s or a 6 year deal in the low to mid 4s.

Tiny defenseman, guess they aren't trading Laughton for Girard now.

Posted this in other thread but wanted to say I hope Cmac is taking a good look at Gurianov. Can you imagine if we were able to turn him into Nichushkin v2? The guy has all the tools but just hasn't been able to consistently piece it together.

Burakovsky is actually the better comparison as Gurianov's best skills are his elite shot and speed. I could see him being a fit in the bottom six as he brings a much different element then the other bottom six guys.

Toronto is way over the cap (even with Muzzin being LTIR'd) and just signed a couple of UFAs for a year.

Wonder what contract they're going to dump?

That'd be a little hardcore for a team that is all in with 1 year deals.

It's going to be Murray and Jankrok according to Leaf fans.
Curious if Jarnkrok would be a fit for 3rd RW for us. Would lock in our entire 3rd line for 3 seasons.

Toronto clears $4m in cap hit when they buyout Murray in the 2nd window. The ~800k won't quite be enough to re-sign Samsonov, but they are close to the ballpark there.

Actually really on board for Calle Jarnkrok like @EdAVSfan suggested. Would lock in a highly competitive third line for years. He only makes $2.1M. Plus they can use another F with PK ability and defensive presence on that line. Both things I believe he does pretty well. With Toronto being over the cap I’d think he can be had relatively cheap

He is an odd one for me. Possession metrics were good in Calgary but not so great in Seattle or Toronto. His Defense was good but not necessarily his PK. I do believe the Avs have had interest in him in the past though…

Murray, I get.

Jarnkrok has a pretty darn good value contract at $2.1M. Would be kind of surprised if they dumped him.

Wood-Colton-Jarnkrok would be a really nice 3rd line, opponents would hate it so much.

Send them MacDermid and a 5th, they seem to want useless facepunchers now (presumably to punch Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Reilly when they start slacking again come April)

He played 98% of his career in Detroit yet Darren Helm will forever be an Avs legend.

Has that ever happened between these two teams since 96?

He's ours now. They can keep JTC as compensation
