This is just the public stuff, nevermind the stuff that only some people know.

You must be insane to think Joe Sakic would ever want a person like this in his organization ever again.

Stanley Cup winning coach Jared Bednar on the team after the Duchene trade…

“The overall chemistry of our group certainly improved,” Bednar said.

I don't get the Duchene hate. The dude wanted out because he saw no vision at the time for the team. But he never demanded a "deadline" for his trade. He stayed and played until Sakic found the Ottawa/Nashville trade. The worst thing he ever said was "I wanted to go someplace I can win" and it's not surprising that he'd say that after the last full season in Colorado he spent we went 22-56-4.

There have been way worse players in plenty of sports that have forced their GMs hand to make the quickest worst deal possible. I hold no resentment at all for Duchene. Guy kept his head down in a place that wasn't winning and asked for a trade somewhere else and let the GM of the team find the right deal.

I have a lot more issues with Paul Stastny than Duchene. As Stastny said he wanted to be here and then walked to maybe our biggest Rival.
Yeah but there was that one picture he took where he didn't smile.

A guy who trashes his own coaches and sets bad examples for young players.

Celebrates personal accomplishments over team failures or successes(ask Patrick Roy what he thinks of Matt Duchene).

Has no understanding of what it means to dig deep and persevere.

Entitled, self-inflated ego. Never won shit and thinks he knows best. Accepts failure and losing.

God, he’s the exact type of personality winners stay away from. Every organization he’s been with so far has experienced his bullshit.

Keep this loser far, far away.

Wow, you really, really don't like him. It all makes sense, but I'm surprised at the underlying level of vitriol here.

I still think about the 10 year old kid standing on his bed surrounded by Avs gear and realize that both sides made mistakes when he was here and I miss him dangling through the legs of Pittsburgh Penguins players.

Wouldn't mind Duchene on a 1 year contract, but he'll get more years and more money elsewhere, so doesn't seem likely.

It's like people don't realize that this is a job for people. They might be millionaires but they are also people at their job. I know I've talked mad shit about the bosses and bureaucracy at my work. I've wanted to leave for better opportunities. And I like it when people don't mince words and say what they mean (ala Duchene) instead of lie out of their teeth (ala Stastny).

Duchene is also a former Blue Jacket, which, as we all know, increases the chances they we acquire him.

But seriously, they could have had him at 50% retention and didn't do it, and some other team will offer more than we're able to anyways. Plus the character issues mentioned by others. Plus Sakic's "grittier" comment doesn't line up with prioritizing him in free agency.

I've said a lot worse about my co-workers and I still love them all

I’m not advocating for bringing him here or not bringing him here, but we have a glaring hole in the top 6 and the guy could have done some growing up in the years. I’m fine not signing him but I’d welcome him back on a 1 year deal to try to win a cup.

Also, I’m not 100% sure but I feel like Sakic is going to add grit via the bottom 6 and bottom pairing

So if we take Sakic at his work, who brings "gritty" to the team in the UFA market? (And, yes, we could try to sign Gritty away from the Flyers, hahaha)

Dropping this amidst all the Duchene talk.

If CMac's ultimate plan is to ship G out, what about taking a cheap flier on Reilly? Longtime analytics darling who couldn't find a spot on a deep Bruins blueline with his unhelpful cap hit.

100% Wheeler is a cancer. You don't get stripped of the captaincy for nothing.
Even before that, there were plenty of rumours that he's the reason Buff quit, Laine wanted out of WPG etc. Although I'm not going to pinpoint it all on Wheeler, but he was the captain when these players decided they wanted out.

I know we have a strong locker room, but I'd still stay away from him.
