Honestly, this gives me hope that is what they are planning on (not necessarily Kirivanta specifically). They've been at their most dangerous when they just overwhelm other teams with a strong forecheck.
It seems like we have to sign some cheaper guys and there seemed to be a lot of tenacious types UFA. And it would be nice if they aren't all 33 or older.

I want a Wood-Colton-LOC 3rd line... it'll be inconsistent offensively and will have their fair share of penalty issues, but it would probably be the best forechecking line in the entire league. Find a way to make it happen CMac.
What about Foudy on the RW there instead and keep LOC on the 4th line?

We know LOC has virtually zero offense to his game despite wowing with the occasional toe drag snipe every few months.

I don't love the names that people keep bringing up. Laughton (at the price that's been rumored), Duclair, Garland... They really need to swing for a bigger piece somehow.
What’s wrong with Duclair? Was hurt most of this year, but score 23 and 31 goals the season prior?

I don't think he's ready for that role. IMO LOC will be elevated the most here... Colton stabilizes the middle of the ice so LOC doesn't have to go solo as often offensively.

I think the front office looked at Vegas and saw what depth can do.
I mean they didn't need to look at Vegas since they did the exact same thing the year prior with tons of depth up front.

I would hope he's ready for an NHL role sooner than later. Would do a lot to alleviate cap issues if he could slide into an NHL role for a cheap contract and produce ~30-35 points and be a speedy 3rd line menace.

Yup. They just expected too much from Newhook and JTC, and decided not to do anything about it when everyone else saw the issues. Glad they are being addressed now.

So what’s the consensus on our two firsts? Package them to move up? Use one for a top 6 winger? Use both for a really good top 6 winger?

He doesn't score at an NHL player level, therefore he's not good enough to play in the league.
I wasn't thinking we'd need points from him, just keep the offensively gifted players off the PK and make the 4th line hard to play against. Also, have experienced NHL players on the 4th line.

I think he'll probably be readyish sometime late next season, but he'll have to claw for that spot. 24-25 will be his year to really take over that sort of role.

LOC needs to go back to playing like a maniac for this to work. When he only works harder than 75% of the league he's a pretty mid bottom sixer.

One thing is certain here... if the Avs don't succeed next year, it won't be for a lack of trying. At this point, that is all I really ask. Full effort for the Cup moving forward. If it fails, it fails... but at least you're pushing. Dramatically better than what happened last season.
