Easily a first line winger
Based upon what? His scoring production?

You’d kind of have to cherry pick 2 out of the last 7 seasons to find “easily” 1st line scoring totals. I guess it all depends on which Duchene shows up this season - the guy who scored at a 1st line pace 2 of the past 7 seasons. Or the guy who didn’t for 5 of the last 7 seasons.

Outside of Karlsson, not a lot of value moving around here... But, so many pieces and retention to work out that it's certainly a pretty significant trade.

EK should help the Penguins get back into the playoffs but I still feel like they're just too old to actually do anything.

Wonder if this starts to get some other deals moving a bit.

Good job by Grier as well I think. Not that much retained and got out of that horrible contract. Granlund could be flipped for decent value if retained I think, although that would max out their retaining slots for the next two years. But you are still rebuilding so why the f*** not.

Does this really makes the Pens good enough to do anything in the playoffs? I really don’t see it. They’re old and their D and goaltending is still not good enough

Yeah, the Pens really didn’t pay that much because they had to take Karlsson at his full cap hit, since they retained on Petry.

Wonder how that works out for the Pens, Karlsson hasn’t succeeded before when he has had to share offensive chances (with Burns), wonder if he or Letang has to change the way they play
Letang has already said he'd cede PP1 to EK. Which would be a win-win I think. Letang will still be the 1D there I think and giving him less minutes will certainly be a plus I'd think.

I don't think that this makes the Pens a legit contender, but for where they are as an org it makes sense to make this trade imo.

Is it me or is that a very underwhelming trade for everyone involved?

I think they’re a playoff team, but not a cup winner.

Tbh, I think their defence should be pretty solid, If Karlsson and Letang can stave off regression.

They’re going to be asking Graves to do a lot of heavy lifting defensively though. Even though I think he was probably somewhat underrated in Colorado, that’s a big ask.

Their forward group is more of a concern Imo. They’re gambling on so many old dudes to keep on trucking. Will be interesting to watch.

Also Karlsson is gonna help offensively but not much defensively, and if you’re relying on Graves to do heavy lifting defensively, you’re in trouble

Pens likely aren't done.
