Will be interesting to see how Karlsson plays with some decent, albeit old talent again. Amazing offensive talent, but Karlsson’s play regressed significantly when he had to play a more structured game.

I’d probably try and throw Karlsson out there whenever Crosby and Letang aren’t on the ice.

I always find it funny when people keep bringing up Karlsson scoring 100 points which wasn’t enough to bring the Sharks even little closer to playoffs. Even if he scores 100 points with Pens, that’s not gonna be enough for them to make a deep playoff run. Getting 100 points is one thing, being able to play D and shutdown the opposition is another

Karlsson is a negative impact player on a team that actually wants to win.

Duchene will have more points in the first 25 games of the season than Drouin will for the rest of Drouins NHL career.

Grubauer did nothing wrong.

Petry asked for a trade and pouted for 1+ year before he finally got traded to Pittsburgh...then a year later he blocked a trade to SJ and got traded back to Montreal .

Probably didn't think in a million years that he'd get traded back there so they weren't on his list.

I can't imagine him playing another game for the Habs though. That'd be like Duchene coming back to Colorado a year after getting traded to Ottawa.

Pretty sure Montreal is going to flip him. Retain 50%, surely there are teams interested.

Yea, if they retain another 50% a team is going to get him @ 75% retained for 2 years. IMO he'd return at least a 2nd.

In other news, that's a shitty contract for Dumba.

Smart money move by Dumba. Probably not a single team willing to come close to 4M per so he signs with those scrubs knowing he likely gets dealt at the TDL and gets overpaid by the Coyotes for a year.

He's 29. The time to sign his long term UFA contract was this summer. This is Klingberg again.

Yeah but that's more than he would have gotten anywhere else. I don't know if the case for the guy making 7+m is there any more but if it is then Arizona is a good place to make it.

Coyotes are obviously years from contention but I have to say they are actually a decent team. I give them credit for not tanking or mailing it in. They were smart with getting the LTIR army and the assets that came with it but now that's a team that is about 60-70% of the way done on rebuilding. If they can get some surprise contributions from bottom of the roster players and in goal they could challenge for a playoff spot this year.

By the way, no one is talking about the shitty ass return that the Sharks got for Karlsson retained?

Literally 3 cap dumps and a 1st that is top 10 protected??
Karlsson is a cap dump.

If you're trying to win a defenseman with 11m cap hit who doesn't play defense in a structured system and is barely a net positive on the ice isn't going to cut it.

And if you're not contending and want to rebuild you can pay Matt Dumba55 and save money.

I think those 1 year contracts on year 1 of free agency are overrated. The players lose.

Everyone thought Hall would get a huge 7 or 8 year contract after his 1 year contract in Buffalo. Didn't happen. Same for Klingberg and Anaheim.

ERod is the luckiest of the bunch and got what he turned down the previous year.

Dumba isn't regarded like he was when he was still developing and people were thinking this guy is going to be a star someday. A lot of medicore D got better deals at the right time extending with their teams but the open market is smarter than that. Who knows, the Coyotes might make him a good offer if he works out. Won't be 8 years, but could be something like 3-4 years @6-7m AAV. He won't make $100m in his career but finishing around $40m ain't a bad life. And this is the team to go to, they have $13m in LTIR money coming off next year, with the cap floor going up they are going to spend some money.
