I mean what was their other option? Keep EK65? Because those offers were not getting any better.

I think they did good. Some of that garbage they returned could still be turned to assets, especially Granlund retained if he bounces back.

I think they did about as well as they could have given the situation. Sharks had their back against a wall and only retained 13%. They weren't going to get back much unless they ate a lot of cash and that was never in the cards.

People are riding Dubas' hard right now, but there is a lot of be seen about the Pens actually having the team to make a real run. I had them as a bubble team before this, and unless EK65 learns to play D again I don't think they will outscore their problems in their own zone that caused them to miss last season.

He's 29. The time to sign his long term UFA contract was this summer. This is Klingberg again.
Why did it *have* to be this Summer? Plenty of 30/31 year old defensemen are stupidly given 4/5 year deals.

Dumba has a good season, he'll get his. He just had a horrendous season and still secured 4M.

By the way, no one is talking about the shitty ass return that the Sharks got for Karlsson retained?

Literally 3 cap dumps and a 1st that is top 10 protected??

Yeah, I don't get it. They exchange 4 years of a cap problem with EK65 for 2 years of a cap problem with the mediocre pieces that came back. Meanwhile, they get a first round pick probably in the teens, but lose the most exciting player on their team who probably helped bring fans into the building. Imagine trading a Norris winner and offensive force for cap dumps that will stay on your cap for 2 years plus the rights to pick someone like Tyson Jost.

The Pens are the team to beat. They have the two top Cs in the league, including Crosby coming off concussion, the two top defensemen in the world, Jeff Carter fresh off a Cup win, and two young studs manning the net and GM office in Jarry and Dubas.

Wait, you're telling me the date is August 6, 2023, not August 6, 2013? THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

I didn't realise Dumba was that old. He has one season of 50 points, one of 34 and the rest in the 20s or below. What sort of large contract could he have expected? The idea of him being paid 6 million is wild enough to me.

Grier handled this pretty poorly IMO. Showed his inexperience.

He made some comments about how it's been a grind and he's happy it's over and done with. Sounds like opposing GM's just waited him out. He should have expected that to be the case after this wasn't done in July.

The move to counter that would have been what Sakic would have done. You just wait for the right deal and don't worry about the drama. Why do the Sharks need to get this done before the season just because EK might want that?

He should have went to Karlsson and told him he may wait until the deadline to move him if he has to. He could have sold EK on having a better idea who the contenders are by then too.

I’m still not sure why Dubas considered a good GM
Yeah to me this basically confirms that he cannot evaluate a roster at all.

If you look at the penguins roster and what they need, a D-Man like Erik Karlsson should certainly not be at the top of anyone's list.

Even if that IS the conclusion you come to, that you need more offence from the backend, why wouldn't you just trade for Tyson Barrie at that point?? It's not going to cost you as much and he's only got 1 year left on his contract at $4.5M.

Now they are going to be on hook for EK at $10M for 4 years lol...

I don't think Dumbas last very long in Pittsburgh. First Graves on that contract and now this... Lolololololol

The penguins better or worse are not gonna rebuild with Crosby still apart of the team and the extra money that comes with it tell they do and attendance dries up. They got a good player at a good price for peanuts. We all know it’s not gonna get the pens a cup but $$ that’s not on dubas

Yeah but what did Dubas do in Toronto all those years? Wins one round. Gets fleeced by Sakic in Kadri deal. Just couple of his highlights

I don’t see the confusion with the EK add? They add another potentially elite player to the roster to give Crosby and Malkin another kick at the can before the retire. The rebuild post this core is already going to be a brutal one, some draft picks aren’t really changing much.

This is the pens D next year :

Graves-E.Karlsson
Petterssen-Letang
PO Joseph-Ruhwedel

There is no 'can to kick' with that D. They are going to get stomped.

Letang is 36 and has 5 more years at $6.1M. Can't wait to see him develop a mysterious allergy to his equipment sometime soon...

They can always turn the team around with trades and FAs. Now the cap is eaten up
