Both can be right no? Graves was an NHL-level defender and is quite serviceable, but his IQ and field of vision are what originally prevented him from making the NHL with the Rags. With Grubauer, I think a lot of people are still quite butthurt at his German-ish comments about nobody scoring for him, but he was widely inconsistent here at the same time. I still would have much preferred to win the Cup with Grubs in the net than Kuemper.

Ryan Graves would be great as a bottom pair on the Avs roster today. I say that as a known Graves hater. Unfortunately, he would arouse Jared into playing him in the top 4 and thats where its a problem.

Graves was obviously asked by Bednar to join the rush, just like Manson. If he'd have done that without the coach's approval he'd not have stayed with Makar very long.

Third, why don't people talk about MacKinnon, Rants, and Makar combining for 1 goal and 2 assists in games 3-5 in that series? It is always Graves screwed up, Grubi forgot how to play goalie, Bednar got significantly outcoached, etc (all of which play into it)... but those 3 are expected to carry the team and frankly didn't show up nearly enough in that series.

Rutta’s goal in game 5 was brutal.

Game 5 vs Stl - God awful Tyler Bozak OT(!!) goal; a million times worse then anything Grubs did.

Also destroyed any chance of the Mac goal going down in history...which is absolute blasphemy.

Kuemper was absolutely terrible when we won, but he was solid until he got pocked in the eye. After that his play went down the toilet.

I don't have any issue with Kuemper, he was fine when healthy. He just was awful after that eyepoke, obviously not 100%.

That dominant 16-4 cup is all the more impressive when you remember it came with below replacement goaltending. Astonishing.

I defended him all year but watching Kuemper made me appreciate Georgiev's stability in front of the net

This is an underrated part of the equation with him. He bought in from day one and knew the expectations, the team loved to play in front of Kuemper.

The whole group had indomitable faith that they were going to get it done that year. The weak goals Kuemper let in didn’t seem to shake the teams mentality as much as it did with other goaltenders they’ve had for whatever reason.
