If they do that it'll suck right away. It will take money away from other positions of need and will be felt immediately. Having a $18 million top pairing won't win us shit. We have the headliners, we need depth.
Anaheim won the cup with Pronger and Neidermayer accounting for 29.5% of the cap that season.
Why couldn't the Avs win the cup with Toews and Makar taking up a less percentage of the cap?

There's no rush to sign Toews. This year we should find out if:

1- Byram will be able to play first pairing minutes on the left side now or in the near future

2- Toews stays the same or takes another step back

These 2 things will dictate if we keep him and for how much.

Naz back at 50% retained confirm😜

Is our #1 center also making 3.3 million? Do we also have Perry, Getzlaf and Penner on their ELCs?

I question the hockey views of people that actually want Cal Foote. He's 6'4", plays like he's 5'9", and with close to zero offensive ability as well. Very mobile defenceman no doubt, but not a ton of IQ there since he takes a ton of stick infractions due to not anticipating the play. Think about it lads, granted Tampa drafted him, they do have a keen eye for talent and they had no problem trading him for a rental. I think that should speak volumes of what they think of him.

The only way I take Cal Foote is if it's with the expectation that you're taking a gamble that he can develop over the year, but he's there to be 7D.

This is really setting up for a second straight year of "sweepstakes" and possibly even "bidding war" for an even further washed up Kane.

Yeah, I mean, we seem to be able to develop depth D. I don't see the downside assuming the contract makes sense.

He sounds like Graves/Holden a little lol. Not as physical as you'd hope, but mobile, and prone to mistakes. I do mean the younger less experienced versions.

Because Toews is a pretty big step down from both of those guys. And they play on the same pairing.
