Very strange given how highly Cronin spoke of Galchenyuk last season, his work ethic, his leadership on the Eagles, etc.

It's obvious he isn't NHL caliber anymore but to have your contract terminated like this? Fishy.
He probably kept his nose clean since he was trying to earn a contract and a shot in the NHL. This summer he got signed early.

I'm pretty sure out of this Chuck will get 2/3 of 775 to go away instead of the lower guaranteed amount. Not 100% sure on that, but that seems to be the way it reads.

Hey, Peter. What kind of trade package could the Avs expect if they decide to deal Devon Toews? — Kevin W.

They could receive a lot, but don’t count on it happening. Every indication I’ve gotten is that the front office is not interested in moving Toews. The Avalanche are in win-now mode, and he’s a top-pairing defenseman who has great chemistry with Makar.

Given the fact that Toews’ contract ends after this season, and that he will likely ask for more money than he’s currently making, do you think the Avs will extend him? — Benoit H.

Toews will definitely make more than his current $4.1 million cap hit on his next deal, especially with the cap going up. My sense is the team will try to extend him, but I don’t know if anything will get done imminently. When Nathan MacKinnon was extension-eligible last summer, he didn’t sign until mid-September.

You may keep all of your Toews trade proposals to yourself.

Just watching game 2 vs Seattle:laugh:

So Baugh is the new Dater? The opposite of what he's saying is going to happen?
I don't doubt that the Avs will offer him a contract, but he's gonna get a boatload of a deal from someone else. This will be his only big NHL payday. I don't know why he wouldn't test the open market and we just don't have the cap space.

I've gotten the understanding that Toews really likes it here, and especially playing with Makar. Money is money, but I wouldn't be surprised if something got done under market value. What that would look like, no idea.

Not too concerned about it at this point.

Avs will find a way to keep Toews. It'll probably be with term and it'll suck in 3-4 years, but they'll keep him. This will be a Nuke situation where they'll find a way.

Well I was hoping for bottom 6 rebuild, which we touched on with Colton and Wood. Coupled with LOC and Cogs that's fine. But we are missing a 3W and 4C. Meyers sucks, and Foudy is a decent prospect but big question mark.

Watching reasonable 3rd/4th liners going for super cheap on 1 year deals is frustrating when we have these holes.

What's also frustrating is our Landy replacement is a huge ? coming off a 2 goal season. RyJo is a ? coming off a fairly big injury.

So basically our season hinges on question marks coming through for us and making an impact and so so depth actually working out.

I would have liked a more aggressive approach with less question marks. They still have time this offseason but right now the roster is lacking IMO and it's frustrating since we are supposedly going for a Cup.
You admit they still have time in this offseason to improve the roster so why get frustrated now? Get frustrated in Oct if they fail to do what YOU want them to do. No points in getting all worked up right now when there is still 2.5 months to go before the season begins.

If they do that it'll suck right away. It will take money away from other positions of need and will be felt immediately. Having a $18 million top pairing won't win us shit. We have the headliners, we need depth.

Definitely disagree with that lol. Toews is by far our most important LD. Losing him closes the window for sure.

Agreed it's not like I'm losing sleep over the Avs moves this offseason. Just very skeptical/leery that they'll actually do anything further.

Toews is an essential core player, can't lose him.

I agree he's our best LD, but his contract will cripple us. We should be looking to trade him for good depth. Not extended him when he's on the wrong side of 30 and needing a giant pay day.

We're becoming the Leafs of the west and we still need to re-sign Rants in 2 years.

I also don't believe our window will close with the loss of Toews. Loosing Makar, Mikko or MacK shuts it, but not any other single player.

Trade G for assets, use assets to get (Timmins,Barron)
Resign toews
Trade Manson
In two years time

Byram-Makar
Toews-(Timmins or Barron)
Gulyayev -Malinski

To trade or not re-sign Toews, I think you really need two things to be certain. First and most importantly, Byram's inconsistencies and rough edges have to be smoothed off and he has to show he can directly replace Toews. Second, G's regression has to stop. If either of those are not certain, moving Toews or simply not signing him will be a pretty large mistake that'll be hard to recover from.

I expect Toews to be retained, and I think his extra money would be from moving Josh Manson ($4.5M AAV).

Manson's NTC will reduce from a Full -> 12 Team next off-season, with almost 60% of the actual dollars having been paid out already. I'm not saying the Avalanche will get anything in return, but with a significant cap rise, I think they can avoid a buyout (think Hayes/Johansen).

MacFarland has done some major surgery to his forwards this off-season, and I think there's still at least one more forward addition coming. But next off-season, I think the focus will be on reshaping the back end.

He'll be in Seattle or Vancouver this time next year but hopefully with two rings instead of just one. At least that's what I expect to happen.
