I only want him to fight in response to a teammate getting roughed up. And not every time, and not every teammate. But if a Pasta. Marchand, Poitras etc. takes a shot that is over the line, I don’t see why it’s such a crazy expectation.
But that didn't happen Tuesday. They stood up for Marchand when it was a clean hit. There seems to be a narrative that Bruins players are getting pushed around and cheap shotted all over the ice but where is that happening?

Pretty funny listening to TSN Overdrive ( Toronto ) host Brian Hayes predicting that Bergeron returns to Boston next Feb. The other 2 guys, both ex NHL players said that it wouldn't shock them if it happened with the way the Bruins are looking this year.
Did I miss an article about Bergy continuing to train to stay in NHL playing shape and how he has retracted his specific reasons for retiring?

im definitely not calling for him to be traded or benched but i did think he was going to come into this season a little bit different than he has. but i do agree hes been decent with coyle again.

What made you think that?

In what way did you expect Frederic to be different?

Who stood up for him and how?

And…I don’t want to get into a twelve post back and forth about specific hits/plays.

This is more about the general attitude this team seems to be a part of this team.

There just isn’t a lot of push back and it worries me because it’s reminiscent of April.

Did you not see what happened after Dahlin's hit? Did you want some sort of line brawl on that - for an absolutely clean hit?

That’s what you took from that whole post?

That I want him fighting like Tie Domi in the 90’s just for cred?

Thats all. Just what has happened in the NHL for decades and still happens today. Nothing more.

I want Frederic to fight every time someone gives him shit. Play on the edge and stay there. Its not like the team is going to miss him if he sits for 5 or 7 minutes. Maybe misses a shift.

But, I don't think that kind of game is in him.

Freddy is not an enforcer. He's not Ryan Reeves or Jeff Viel. Why do we want Freddy fighting all the time? To what end?

Depends on the situation. The game was in hand, so why not send a message?

Maybe it prevents another guy from throwing a clean but hard hit.

Maybe it says to Marchand, “I’ve got you back”.

I know I’d appreciate it if someone did it for me.

Now, a 2-1 game with 8 minutes left….then no.

Let it slide until another time.

But they did respond. They did react to the hit. You just want it to be some big fight - you want Zacha dropping the gloves? Pasta? Because that's who was on the ice. Or do you think that hit - a clean hit, again - warranted Freddy coming off the bench and blasting someone cheaply?

Who's saying that? Montreal had a couple of guys running around and he was real quiet. Was that not a time for him to throw a few checks, or maybe get in someone's face?

I also thought with Pasta getting man handled, that deserved some type of response.

He fought plenty in the AHL, he's fought in the NHL - it's not like someone is expecting something from him he hasn't done before.

I’d like guys who are capable of holding their own in a fight, every once in a while to maybe throw down in response to a teammate getting roughed up.

It doesn’t have to be every time. It doesn’t have to be for every teammate, and it shouldn’t be done at a time in a game where it can hurt the team…but, it would be a little bit comforting, maybe even inspiring to see it done once in a while.

Right, he's not an enforcer. He has some skills. But he could give himself a little more room on the ice if opponents knew he was ready to go anytime, rather than once in a blue moon.
Freddy was top 10 in the league in fights last year.

I quoted you by accident. My bad.
No worries. I'm not looking for this guy to be Terry O'Reilly. I just think he's been a bit too quiet physically and the fact he was invisible against Montreal wasn't a good sign.

He's playing well, but he's one of the few guys on this team that can hit and drop the gloves on occasion.

Not sure why this is controversial opinion.

I echo this 10000%.

I’m not asking him to participate in staged 1991 style center ice fights.

Just, every twice in a while remind us that the guy who said to the Rangers bench:

“Who wants it”?

Still exists.

So first you say Frederic is not an enforcer. I agree.

Now you respond he was top 10 in fights last year. Making him what, an enforcer?

How many fights did he have last season? He only had 57 minutes in penalties.

Last season the Bruins had 28 fighting majors. The Stanley Cup champions (Vegas) had 14. Finalists (Florida) had 21. For what its worth.

They responded then and there to a degree, that's fine. It still ended up with a guy in a fish bowl dangerously tossing our leading scorer to the ice by his head.

Later in the game Lauko was ran 2-3 times and hit hard (who was also coming back from an injury). The Bruins were up 4-0 or 5-0 at this stage.

I'm not saying go jump someone and start feeding them, but they didn't even take a number. That's a bit frustrating to me, and Frederic should have been a guy to do that. Line a guy up, hit him hard, draw a penalty.

You don't always have to fight as a response to someone running around, you could actually go out and run someone yourself..
This.

The Bruins don't do this, though.

Yup. It would be nice to have a few other guys to step up and take some of that on. Frederic is a guy who should be, because he has the ability to do so. Lauko can as well and does when healthy.

Does he, though?

Last season Greer was good for running guys, even Foligno for awhile. Its not something i recall seeing Freddy do much.
