I think it was moreso the likelihood of Braillard being claimed that made him the better option to waive. Teams who claim a player have a financial obligation, which is less of a problem is the player claimed can contribute right away (Which Braillard can).

I am still trying to wrap my head around this because this is new territory even for me, as I cannot remember the last time we had a prospect in this situation. Richard Nejezchleb comes close but at the time I wasn't this engaged in the business side of the game, especially the administrative rules and by-laws of major junior hockey
