he's had a few missed opportunities to get the puck up the ice fighting the puck a bit, but just had a nice little rush where he got a loose puck at his blueline and chipped it ahead to Smith (I think) who got a decent shot. Perreault was also then cruising to the net for any rebound but was checked on the play. Nice tha the didn't do a flyby though

Seems like he's really trying to read the play on the ice defensively and being active all around rather than just kinda doing the motions

nice give and go between perrault and leonard...perreault skated it out through the neutral zone and passed it over to leonard , came across the blue line and got the puck back and a good shot that the goalie gloved

managed to miss it but think perrault just sprung his linemate through the neutral zone for a good rush and chance where leonard tried to get it across to Smith

Couple of other good plays to keep the puck and play going after that

basically, definitely looking like one of those players that finds the puck and who the puck follows, Seems very involved. I'm biased for sure but feels like he's the straw stirring the drink on that line right now

Smith scores on a long shot, goalie wiffed on that one I think. Don't think Perrault gets anything on it but he helped create the turnover with a check at his blueline and was in front of the net when Smith's shot went in

Washington, D.C.
Ryan Leonard with a sweet hard working rush up the ice. Centering pass missed Gabe who was crashing the net, comes right out to Will Smith who scores from a bad angle through Gabe’s screen.

some weird stuff going on where originally a penalty was called on a "late hit" on Leonard but looked accidental to me, then all the players got in a scrum, more penalties were called, and now refs are reviewing

e: BC powerplay with 30 seconds left

Perrault doesn't seem to be on the 1st unit?

He's a sophomore in Big10, just 20 in August
Not older, or more experienced, than most, even having played a Jr year between HS and the U

Probably getting lots more icetime this season, freshman who are not stars often get lots less ice on deep competitive programs

Playing with Snuggerud and Mooer definitely helps

He got an offsetting roughing minor in the scrum

perreault just setup smith all alone in front of the net by winning a board battle and getting the puck there and smith missed. perreault then got a jab at the loose puck but no luck

BC went down 3-2 and then Smith scores on the power play to even it 3-3. Another kinda lucky goal for him, hit a defendseman and bounced over the goalie
can't find a scorecard but perreault might have gotten the secondary assist by moving the puck back to the point while in traffic and being checked, then the defenseman set up smith

Powell and Gauthier with the assists, at the moment anyway.

yeah the replay they did wasn't quite clear who got the puck back to the point, Perreault was in there but from the angle of the replay I couldn't tell

BC gives up a late power play goal and can't get a good chance in the final minute to even it up, lose 4-3

Perreault looks active and the play happens around him a lot but still looks like he's settling in a bit to me

of the 3 smith has honestly been the least impressive to me. maybe that changes as he adds strength but from what i've seen he's not fast enough to overcome his size. leonard is who he is and is effective at what he does, gabe to me has been making far more of an impact on and off the puck. tbh i've never been blown away by smith and never made sense to me how highly regarded he was, but maybe people see something he'll grow into i'm missing -

been pretty impressed with what i've seen from gabe so far regardless of his point totals not jumping off the page. the smarts are as advertised all over the ice, the puck skills have flashed, and the skating questions seem way overblown.

Dylan Roobroeck had three assists.

Maxim Barbashev had one assist.

Rasmus Larsson had one assist.

Ty Henricks had a goal.

Gabe Perreault, Noah Laba, and Brody Lamb were scoreless.

Jaroslav Chmelar assisted on an ENG.
Empty net assist is worse than no points, haha

Yeah I didn’t see his skating as detracting from his play
He looks like he could have a big second half of the season as he settles in and things start going in for him

Outside of Laf and Kakko who played in the NHL their first year after being drafted has there been a more optimistic forward that we drafted than Perreault? Maybe Kravtsov but I always felt like we were stretching to make the case for him. I think the most important part of any player's game is the brain. Now if you're super smart but lack talent otherwise that sucks but that's not the case with him. And his speed is overblown. What's stopping from being a star in a couple of years?

He was drafted by the Rangers. You know that's not how we roll.
