There ate no games tonight?? Why
from sportsnet.ca:

NHL fans woke up Tuesday morning to a surprising sight: No games on the schedule.

While unexpected, there are a few reasons why the schedule is the way it is — and most of them revolve around U.S. Thanksgiving.

As Sportsnet's Jeff Marek reports, the NHL only had three buildings available for games on Tuesday: Arizona, Vancouver and Calgary. But, because of the holiday week in the U.S., more American teams have requested home dates — taking the Canucks and Flames out of the equation. Calgary opened a four-game U.S. road trip on Monday in Seattle, and Vancouver begins a three-game U.S. road trip Wednesday in Colorado.

That leaves just the Arizona Coyotes, who host the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday and did not want to play back-to-back home games.

The NHL has 12 games on Wednesday, none on Thursday (for Thanksgiving), 15 on Friday and nine on Saturday. So the risk of having teams play four games in five nights was too great.

And one final wrinkle. Four teams — the Wild, Red Wings, Maple Leafs and Senators — are unavailable for games as they return home from Sweden after the Global Series.

Add all of those factors up and there's a rare dark night on the NHL calendar, giving hockey fans a free night to get some chores done.

Interesting.
Crazy scheduling by nhl. Is it because of thanksgiving. THATS Thursday though. I can see no games that night since nfl owns thanksgiving

Thanks

I'm happy the NHL has Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve/Day off. This time around, I'm traveling to Manhattan on Thanksgiving day. I will watch the Black Friday game in a bar somewhere, then attend the MSG doubleheader on Saturday, Bruins-Rangers and BU-Cornell.

Chores - HA. I'm going to bed...

Ghieshhhh.

I always thought he’d be great with Krejci.

Just saw on NHL Network that Hughes and Makar are each on pace to score 100 points this season and 2 defensemen have never done that in the same season before.

I believe them, of course, but I’m really surprised it never happened before with Bourque, Housley, Coffey, Murphy all playing so long together.

Oh, I also saw Manson get a game misconduct for a crosscheck very similar to the one Poitras took last night.

Coffey is the only one of that group to have 100 seasons. Al MacInnis had 103 points in 1991.

Makar may be the best player in hockey right now.

This far removed for all of their careers, I’d have sworn Bourque and Housley did for sure….Murphy I was iffy about.

Surprised they didn’t.

Gee that new coach bounce didn't last long for the Oilers. The road up to a playoff spot is starting to look very long and difficult indeed.
I remember the main board thread about the Oilers winning the Cup because McDavid asked the team to show up for captains practices

I feel for the Oilers. Don’t really hate that team, in fact I was rooting for them to win the cup this year.

Didn’t make sense to fire their coach when poor goaltending and defense has been a major issue for this team for years now. 5 coaches in 5 years is the definition of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
