Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

Easy to say behind a keyboard. For this issue to get out, in the way it did, you have to assume the dressing room was dysfunctional and something had to be done. They thought they could manage it and I sincerely believe everyone tried (hence both signing).

However, something went down that was irreparable. That is clear - JT was put on a time out. Let that sink in. That tells you how bad it was. Bad things happen, deal with it and move on IMO. I'm glad they didn't waste any more time on this and I hope they get rid of Pettersson too. f*** them both if they're this mentally weak, spoiled, entitled and selfish.
Most of us have experience working with at least one asshole co-worker or teammate whose absence we'd not mind, except for the fact they're one of the proverbial atlas holding up the whole thing together. And none of us are paid what these guys are to put up with them.

What an absolute disaster of a return.

Chytil (Shityl?) is a borderline negative value asset. NYR just took us to the cleaners.

There aren’t even words for how much I hate this. Window is closed. 100 point matchup C for an overpaid 3C with concussion issues and a 5D prospect.

Hopefully we trade Pettersson now too because I really don’t want to watch either of these immature losers ever play for this team again. They’ve both totally f***ed this team and the fans.
what did you think was going to happen?... they did better than I thought they would TBH

That's why the price for Miller is so high because every GM in the league is dead set on acquiring a 100 point match up center.

First-rounder going to Vancouver is top-13 protected this year, Post has learned. If NYR are in top 13 this year, it would become unprotected first rounder next year.

I predict 15th overall this year. Could be picking 15 and 20. Package them to move up. Move one out for a PMD or 2c. Lots of options here.

Chytil isn't a great 2c. But he's getting paid what Suter is going to command next year so that's a win.

If they can get Byram for that 1st then this is looking a lot better. We have a big hole in the top 6, more holes once Boeser is traded.

Why would Buffalo trade for futures? They’ve rebuilding for eternity.

It's big when Drury makes it the faux sticking point.

Same. Or at least until after the 4 Nations.

My guess is that they feared injury.
Bingo.

Drury made Allvin and Rutherford think they got a "win" here by not retaining anything on Miller.

When in reality, they never expected the Canucks to retain because they got him for pennies on the dollar.

Just when I was forgetting what it was like to see your GM get completely outsmarted by another GM, the Allvin and Rutherford stepped right up.

Team has no real youth aside from Willander and Lekk.

They now have a massive hole at center and still need to fix the blueline.

It's a major ask.
Half their team is in their mid 25s. Plenty of gas left in the tank.

I am not nearly as doomer as most people are. I'll reserve judgement till I see Mancini play. 15 games with the rags 5 pts right handed 6'3.

Disappointing
Both the return & this entire saga.

Although to be honest I’m kind of glad Miller is gone. He’s a great player when he’s on & is a guy you win with… but when he’s off: he was lazy, would cough up the puck in glorious scoring situations & openly had THE worst attitude I’ve ever seen on this team. I dunno what happened earlier this year but imo he was checked out since he returned. I think back to the Media bringing up the fact fans were chanting his name at a WWE event of all places & he could not have cared about the support from the fans.

Miller is actually a secret agent for the Nucks where he boosts the Rags this year so they finish outside the Top 13.

But loses his shit and the team tanks next year where the Nucks get a Top 5 pick.

To me, a shitty return was sending out other important pieces or retaining. As long as they aren't retaining, I'm satisfied with the return. It was going to happen, it was going to be a loss, but it gives them cap space ammo, another centre, and a guy who should be playing over Juulsen.

My thoughts too. I think the Canucks fully intend to flip this 1st, so this one isn’t really over, either.

But moving Miller to get the drama out of the room, without retaining salary or giving up another key asset is big.

This sucks, the whole situation is depressing as hell, but honestly I’m not sure this is the worst possible trade assuming that we were pretty much forced to do this.

We didn’t have to retain any salary, we freed up a fair bit of cap—maybe a lot if Chytil has to go on LTIR again (which given his concussion history is very plausible)—and the 1st is a decent chip. Crap return, but probably about the best we could do given the jam we were in.

That said, the larger situation is still depressing as hell. A top 10 player in the NHL last year for this. We really are cursed.

I don’t hate the return getting Lafrenière, Schneider, Perrault or Miller in return was a pipe dream. I was just hoping for a better prospect than Mancini.
I didn't realize Mancini is only 22 years old. I thought he was like 24 or 25 honestly. Still room there for growth. Maybe get a Dylan Samberg type guy out of him.

Or maybe there were more rumours that were around about Miller's attitude that we weren't privy to but GMs were. The reason the return on Miller was bad is because Miller himself tanked that value.

The good news is that we're not tied for Chytil for very long, 2 years at 4.375MM

If he's a flop we could buy him out for 718k cap hit (25 or younger) for 4 years and target a better UFA replacement.
