Detroit is pretty good up front but have bad d and goaltending. They need to address both areas if they want to be a playoff team

Agreed, I am not a fan of any of their goalies, including Husso. I also think the Holls of the world are tougher to move than Yzerman thinks...

Didn't expect to see the Caps doing what they are doing. Yet another win tonight. Near the bottom of the entire NHL in scoring and near the top in limiting goals scored. WTF? Have to think that once their offense gets going they will be pretty dangerous.

Checking some of the leading scorers from around the league:

Quinn Hughes (defenseman) 28 points 5 hits in 18 games

(Artie) Panarin 26 points 1 hit 2 blocks

Kyle Conner 14 goals 2 hits 4 blocks

Jack Hughes 22 points in only 11 games 2 hits 3 blocks

Are we on the verge of having more Gretzky and Mario type superstars as opposed to Crosby and Ovechkin types?

Nice of the NHL to schedule Minnesota a game with Toronto after only 18 hours after they finished their game against Ottawa in Sweden. I realize their is no travel involved in these games played in Sweden, but it still gave TO a significant advantage since they hadn't even played the day before. TO played both their games against opponents who were coming off back to backs.

what`s truly sad is a guy like Hughes will be in the running for a Norris while a guy like Carlo, a true defenseman , because he doesn`t put up pts won`t even get a whisper or Charlie who`ll get some recognition but also doesn`t put up a ton of pts like others but plays stellar D

In Hughes case, he has a +14 and his team is in first place.

So far, its not like Karlsson winning it last season on a last place team and -26.

I agree, McAvoy though is over a point a game so he will likely factor in. Erik Karlsson has won Norris trophies and he's very poor in his own end, but they don't care, it's all about numbers.

The Norris trophy has been compromised with the new focus on putting up points. I liked it better when solid defense was the criterion.

Don‘t know the answer to your question, but I will say that when I looked at their stats I was amazed at how many more hits Ovechkin has when compared to ten other top goal scorers in history.

Like him or hate him, you've got to give him props for doing what he’s done while playing a physical style.

Have to say I had the Caps firmly in the 'too old too slow' camp and was expecting them to fall away from contention. But they're definitely proving that wrong so far. Charlie Lindgren is doing some great work for them in net. Similarly to Boston they look to be trying to re-tool on the fly and are having some success with it.

He scored again today, but got called back for offsides lol

I'm beginning to think he might be cursed!

It’s starting to look that way, I think that’s his 5th first goal that has been takin away from
Either offsides or given to another player lol

Ghieshhhh.

I think him and Connor McDavid must have switched bodies this year lol

I am still for splitting it to the Robert Orr and Norris trophies. I wonder why the NHL is so resistant to the idea?

I'm resistant because naming an offensive defenseman award after Bobby Orr is an insult to Orr's defensive prowess. Orr was as good at his end of the ice as he was at the other. He was the best defenseman on both sides of the puck, and that defensive skill would be de-emphasized by having such a one dimensional award.

What would you name the trophy then, the Paul Coffee?

Fyi, James Norris was owner of the Wings. Would rather see the two trophies be named to the Lidstrom and Orr. I want players on that trophy fans can relate to. Not to take anything away from James Norris, but he is not known by anyone today outside of the trophy name.

I understand your point on Orrs defensive prowess.

They faced Wings next day after they faced Ottawa so yup you are correct .How about that Nylander pts streak. In game 9 they home town ghosted him an assist to keep it going and now its helping drive up his price
