Heartbreaking. My heart goes out to the family. I met Spezza years ago and he was so generous and kind. Always a guy I wanted the B's to get if he was ever available.

I really wish the media would stop using the term "accidental overdose". It wasn't an accident that Fentanyl was put in there, it was done on purpose. It's murder, plain and simple. If someone were lacing recreational drugs with cyanide, you can be damn sure they'd be up on murder charges. This poison is no different.

The Penguins put out the statement from Spezza directly that called it an accidental od. Nowhere does it say it was fentanyl. You can accidentally OD on other drugs.

As most know, been sober and clean since 2005, I`m so f`in tired of having to attend funerals for friends and acquaintances who have overdosed or have passed on due to long term affects of alcohol.

Feel so bad for the Spezza family and I`m sure there are a few fans here who know someone who is battling addiction, feel so grateful that I have chosen sobriety over drugs and alcohol, I`m one of the lucky ones

I work for an org whose aim is to end homelessness, it`s terrifying how many of our clients have addiction and mental health issues

True, but the odds are today that Fentanyl is to blame. They said the same thing for Jimmy Hayes, and he was killed by Fentanyl laced cocaine. It's in everything, heroin, cocaine, fake Adderall, fake Xanax, you can't get away from it. People think they are buying recreational drugs and bam, they're dead. I just would like it to be called as it is, a poison, and the people who deal that poison are murderers.

That's really not fair to the Spezza family to speculate that it was fentanyl.

I remember seeing a headline on the NHL website during that stretch where the Leafs blew like 4 straight multi-goal leads. It read something like “Matthews and Marner ‘pumped’ for All-Star Game.”

Priorities.

I just need to say THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS KIND OF WORK.

I am thankful every day for people like yourself and my wife (mental health counselor in a school) for doing the work that you do. I cannot imagine the mental taxation of doing it day in and day out. Without people like you, we'd be in much more trouble.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

as it should be until all investigations complete

Why? A guy like Makar hasn't been charged, nor even implicated in any wrongdoing. How is it remotely fair that he is deemed ineligible because of the alleged behaviour of his teammates over which he has no control? If I were him or one of the others I'd be furious.

Obviously at present they're not actually missing out on anything, but Hockey Canada needs to sort this out, sooner rather than later.

They didn’t name the players involved until now. So they had to suspend the whole team. Now that they’ve charged the players and it is public who they are, they’ll lift the team suspension. Just procedure in deference to the law (and the victim).

They didn't have to do anything of the sort and it's not 'just procedure'. The law requires no such thing. The law adheres to the presumption of innocence and this is a subversion of that.

But I hope you're right that lifting of the suspension will occur soon now that this is all properly public.
