I don’t think Gabriel, Thiago Silva and Botman are clearly above Romero.
Not sure if we're overrating Romero or underrating other guys here.

- Gabriel was better than everyone on that list except Saliba and the City CBs last season.
- Thiago Silva continues to be better than Romero, but we'll see how he holds up this season.
- Botman I had as a tweener between same tier and better, but I'd rather have him than Romero.

I mean who from my list above do you think he's better than?
This has been done to death though... I made my feelings known and Id rather not get 10 other guys post about how he isnt. Lists in general are subjective and pointless. All I know is that he is elite and WC. Not on here but this is HF a hockey website lol.

I'm not saying we need to keep arguing over it, but this whole forum is pointless by that standard. It's a hockey website with guys here that probably watch more soccer than 95% of people.

And I only gave you a list because you said my arbitrary 10-20 ranking was wild.

I said having 19 CB better than Romero is wild. Or at least that’s what I meant.

There’s a few players that I no longer think are above him. VVD is one another is the ghost of silva but he’s a footballing darling. He hasn’t been better for a couple of seasons now. I get that he’s pretty everyone but move on.

The underrating of Silva (which you've done for the past few seasons) does you a major disservice, @Duchene2MacKinnon. Silva continuing to be rated highly isn't nostalgia (this isn't Sergio Ramos circa 2019), it's because he continued to be stellar through his time at Chelsea. I think his goose is beginning to reach completion, but that says nothing about the past couple years.

Romero is a very good centre back. There are a handful I'd take over him in the Premier League, but he's a very good centre back. I think he's too much of a POS on the field for me to ever be able to assess him rationally, given that he plays for a rival.

I think the realization that City have (at least) of the best CBs in the league )and the best DM in the world) is the takeaway here

I mean like I said he's a very beautiful man.

Romero being a bitch to play against is what makes him a menacing CB. If I'm playing a final tomorrow there isnt a CB id be more comfortable with than him. He's like Ramos without being a bitch.

I mean I've said this for a while but poor Laporte was always under appreciated on here. Dias instantly became one of the best in the league but for some reason people have a hard on for stones. Some how Are and Akanji got up there without anyone noticing though. Gvardiol will prove to be better this year.

I don’t think there are a ton of great CBs/defenders in general on the planet. But City have gone out of their way to invest heavy in that position. I think City probably have bought a dozen defenders for over 25m in the last decade. LFC have bought two in that same time frame for example; and have largely ignored that third of the field (and are still doing so). Obviously not every team spends like City, but you have to go out of your way to find those guys

If they put out an experimental side I think it will be against Leicester. I don’t think they are going crazy in Europa. And they probably shouldn’t
Yeah... I mean, they shouldn't be putting out a u21 side. But they have enough experienced players and vets that they can make a decent side to play in the Europa. Plenty of dudes also need minutes.

I actually think Konate when fit has been much better than Virgil. But who knows really.

LFC are neglecting the defense, but do have a lot of senior players there. I expect that's the next summer plan. Overhaul that group and they've really done a complete rebuild on the fly.

Woolwich fans cynically underrating Romero, while attempting to gaslight people into thinking Gabriel is world class is cute.
The problem is the use of the word world class. Gabriel is comparable to Romero but since all of a sudden Romero is called world class then all comparables will be considered world class as well.

um no lol close to same level but in no way clear better
I never ever wrote clearly better, they're just better however little or big that may be. People confuse Romeo's physicality with "greater talent." I appreciate that he never takes a match off and puts 100% of all his effort, but he's also one reckless tackle away from a second yellow or straight red. The other two are more sound in their game and don't need to do diving scissor tackles as Romeo does.

Yeah look at all his reds lol. Dunk is over 30 hasn’t played for a non mid table side. And had 2 NT caps. Your footballing knowledge is always second to non.

If true, and I take it with a grain of salt, it would explain the amount of injuries the last few seasons in comparison to other clubs. Just a complete joke.

We're like two bloody games in the season bruv. Red cards are pretty rare to begin with yet if I was a gambling man like @cgf , I would bet on a red card by him every game bro.

Spurs is more of a midtable club than Brighton.

Pretty awful management there if that is true, your best result when working out is stretching the muscle as far as possible in a weight-lifting workout. That's why exercise scientists always tell you to lunge as deep as possible or squat as deep as possible.
