Yep, Thelin has given up 3...first 2 were scrums around the net he couldn't get a handle on and the 3rd was a bomb of a 1-timer from Haltunnen, so not great, but not bad either.

Btw, Geekie gets 5min major checking to the head game misconduct in the first 11 seconds of the game.

So he's out of this one and will miss the next game as well.

**now granted, if there was ever a clean check to the head...this was it. In North America, it wouldn't have been a penalty (10% chance - because Geekie is 6'5'' and killed the kid)

I don’t think it was even 2mins. They’re older than 14 years. So it seems ok to me.

So soft. That’s what happens when they have these tournaments in Europe. Either it’s rigged for Canada in Canada or it’s softer than baby poo with 20 minute long reviews of every bump or nudge. Can they ever just put this thing in Michigan or Colorado?
Hockey in general is getting away from the good ole days solid contact. Google Stevens of the Devils and watch what real hockey contact use to be like.

Those are Kids.
Do you know what a single concussion does to q developing brain?

Also the slomo (not in this Video) shows that He jumped a bit into the German Player. Not a good hit.

Looks like a classic clean body check to me. NCAA D1 football players are the same age. Hockey is a contact sport

The only way Geekie avoids the head is

Don't think so. You use your legs for power. Same as when blocking in American football. At the moment of impact, his skates are on the ice, but as you drive through the hit your feet will leave the surface as your legs uncoil.
It’s just follow through. Happens on every big hit.

The refs decided. And i my eyes they decided right.
Look at the replay and the slo mo.
And yes @rt Hockey is a contact Sport. But a concussion during brain development is the most dangerous thing that can happen. And it doesn't matter what the NCAA says or any Other league in the world. The scientific fact is that during this period even a slight concussion can lead to negative long-term effects.
And thats why you should be extra cautious. Its fine to Check, but do it right.

All this talk about "Players getting soft" is so outdated. Yes we all like the hitting, but we all know the effects of concussions on Players from the past. And present.
Its Not soft, trying to find a middle ground of both Sides. Especially for teenagers.

Difficult to do it right in this instance. Shindler (great name) is listed at 5'11", and he's bent forward somewhat making it tough for Geekie to get below neck level. As I posted elsewhere, the IIHF doesn't allow any checks to the head/neck under any circumstances.

He doesn't have the puck anymore, so why hit him?
Geekie could have stopped.
And the iihf is right in doing so. The head should Always be off Limits. The shoulder and the hip is fine.

It’s a soft penalty. That was just a hockey play.

He doesn't have the puck anymore

Just a blur when you freeze it, but the arrow is pointing to the puck, and you can clearly see the German player in the passing motion. How much time elapsed from puck leaving stick to impact? Geekie is good, but only human.

The hit wasn't late.
Whether concussions are bad or not is irrelevant to the play call.
The relative heights of Geekie and Schindler are also irrelevant.
The question should be - Did Geekie make contact with the head?

Yes concussions are bad.

You say its fine to check if you do it right. Geekie did. Face to face. Skates on the ice. Arms tucked in.

The German player has to take some responsibility. Just like in Canada vs Sweden where the Canuck turned his back to the defender as he turned towards the boards. THAT 5 min major was overturned even thought the player checked directly on the numbers and ran the canadian face/should first into the dasher.

Taking the Geekie style hits out of the game is a terrible idea.

You say "we all like hitting" but you dont seem to, really. To eliminate any risk of a concussion you would have to ban/penalize all hitting. And probably should remove the protective equipment while we are at it because they cause a lot of damage. And switch to plastic sticks and sponge pucks, too.
