Nothing wrong with this guy developing down there and joining us when he's NHL-ready if he ever reaches that level.

Comparing him to Michkov is asinine!

Not thrilled to hear about the contract extension. I was warming up to this pick quite a bit after reading more about him, and was looking forward to seeing him come over to the AHL after one year.

I wonder if this comes as a surprise to the HuGo. I'm guessing they knew this was coming?

Yeah, he's already signed for next year, so that's 4 years. He'll be 24 if he comes over after this contract. Not a huge issue since we're currently stacked at D anyway.
He's only had one year in KHL. He'd have 3 more years of being a top pairing RD with the organization willing to play him without fear of leaving. Could be blessing in disguise, we'd have a better idea of who of Barron/Reinbacher/Mailloux are able to be longterm options in that time. Best case scenario, he's a 23 year old KHL star that signs in April/May 2026 and finishes season/playoffs. Comes in for 26/27 season and hits the ground running.

Wasted pick. But hey, we draft for needs...I wonder what needs he'll fill in Russia....

I guess most picks are wasted picks since the stats on the odds of a player playing 200+ NHL games per round is so low outside the 1st round. But not sure what makes it a wasted pick days after.

At 18. Sure. At 20 turning 21 before the end of the year, no. Unless you are talking about a potential Kaprizov.

Idea here is that the guy was a Right d-man. Tell me it wasn't a draft for need. What need will we have if he ever comes in 4 years.

Might as well have drafted another Euro goalie at that spot. Draft Urban.

I don't see any problem picking a 20 year old or even 21 for that matter to stay in the KHL for a few years as long as he gets a good amount of playing time. He can always buy out his contract if he needs to so I don't think it's too big an issue.

I don't see it as a draft for need but then again I never felt we had a big need at RD since so many of our LD's either can play RD or prefer it that I wouldn't have gone out of my way to get a RD. I hope Hughes drafted Reinbacher because he thinks he's the next Seider and NOT because he's a RD. If that's the case then we got problems cause MB did the same stupid shit.

most likely and to be honest they badly needed it as there is going to be very tight room for D prospects in Laval in the next few years (unless they rush more to the NHL) so him spending a few years to bulk up a bit is actually good for us.

Contract extension isn’t a problem. Probably for the best. Let him play another year in the KHL and revisit the story next year. Buyouts are prevalent in European leagues.

I guess we'll never know....as the great Lapointe didn't want to go through each pick, something Timmins always did. Lapointe know that journalists know shit, so he asked for them to ask questions. Will there be 1 journalist who will talk about Bogdan and his new contract now? Can't wait.

buying out of contract in Russia? Well not sure how possible that is.

As far as Reinbacher and RD...well..the whole ''if he would have been LD, maybe we would have cooled down on him''.....just says everything we need.

Yet, Reinbacher will be a great D for us. My point here is that it,s something to draft a 20-year old to see him sign a 3-year contract. If the idea was really to draft him to see him play as soon as possible, you would think that maybe he would have resigned 1 year or something, but you need those D to see what the small ice surface is all about. Guy at best will be here at 24 years old. UFA is 27 years old. All great to pick plenty of NCAA/Euros in order to not use contracts too early....but a 4th round on this...I thought at best it was too early. Frankly, in the WTF columns, I think I would have prefer an Eriksson pick there...

Precisely. They already had Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Norlinder, Trudeau, Struble starting their pro careers last year + Barron & Beaudin early in their careers. We have Mailloux coming in this year. Maybe Reinbacher. We should expect Hutson next year and possibly Engstrom.

We can wait for Bogdan.

Buying his contract out in Russia from everything I know is not much of an issue if that's something he wants to do. I think it's perfect as there's no room in Laval and Hutson/Engstrom could be joining Laval at the end of next season for all we know so it's likely going to be crowded the next couple years.
