January for organising a possible Summer tournament.

Right now TSN is airing a press conference with HC and the IIHF and Hockey Canada rep stated that they initially wanted a bubble but some countries wanted less restrictions. So no link until it's in ink.
Being a Canadian patriot doesn’t mean you need to carry the water for a private organization that just wants your dollars regardless of it having “Canada” in the name. Hockey Canada is the tournament host and loudest voice in IIHF. As convenient as it is to blame the Russians or whatever, if they wanted a bubble they could have had a bubble.

Tardif talked about playing the tournament in the summer during his interview with TSN. Clearly just kicking the idea around and openly didn't have anything approaching a firm plan.

Obviously I feel bad for all the fellow fans out there, but the real pain will be felt from the players.

Every one of them ditched their junior team for 2-3 weeks to go to f***ing Red Deer of all places to play 1 or 2 games if they were lucky. None of them saw their families for Christmas, and each of them return with a big fat handful of nothing.

And it doesn't end there. 90% of these players probably have to quarantine on return to their own country, so their goes another 2 weeks

It's a disgrace.

For the 2002 birth year kids, it was their last chance at playing in the WJC. :(

For most of the kids in the tournament, its a once in a lifetime opportunity and now its essentially been wasted due to the IIHF being a Mickey Mouse organization.

The organizers truly blew it. Cancellation is the only answer, but it didn't have to turn out this way. They could have structured this with contingency for a virus that isn't going away just yet (never mind the arguments about the CDC, or they "should have done it like the NFL", not talking about those very different policies).

The NFL is hardly better, neither is the NBA.

The NFL is hardly better, neither is the NBA.
Just to clarity, my point was exactly that: forget about comparisons (hear so many talk about how great the NFL etc. has done it blah blah).
The IIHF's job was to plan and execute. Could have implemented the proven 'bubble' structure, taxi squads etc. They failed.
It's not the end of the world, simply a well defined and recognized failure.

Several teams have paused home games, last year’s CHL season was beyond screwed up (no OHL at all), could not successfully run a prospect tournament, forced the creation of a ridiculous Canadian bubble season last year, almost didn’t have a season at all due to Canadian travel restrictions (or the teams would’ve had to move), the list goes on and on
I'm sorry the canadian government inconvenienced you.
