Hockey Canada in Baghdad Bob mode. What a mind boggling opinion from Hockey Canada. Floor exclusivity is pointless. You can't avoid shared areas in a hotel. Instead of "floor exclusivity" at multiple hotels, they could have just rented an entire hotel and avoided this mess.

Do they have elevator exclusivity too? Like this is comedic right now.

People need to lose jobs over this.

It seems like the people running the tournament never adjusted to the realities of the new Omicron variant: much more contagious, with vaccines doing little to prevent infection, but apparently less lethal with those infected mostly being asymptomatic. They either needed to (1) implement a full-bubble at the start of the tournament, (2) not test asymptomatic players like they've done in the NFL, or (3) implement taxi squads to replace the players that would inevitably test positive.

Preferably 2 or 3 of the above.

Not doing anything made this cancellation inevitable.

According to what's on TSN now Hockey Canada wanted a full bubble initially but there was a push back to less restrictive conditions by other teams.

Be interesting who those teams are. I can guess.

It's amazing how americans only want to find the worst global examples to take after.

Not like.. the metric system. Or some semblance of gun control. Or a healthy political system.

Nah. Less vaccinations. That's the key.. because they made it work in.. where again?
I’m double vaccinated and Canadian.

I see this repeated a lot when there is no definitive science behind it and even less real world results proving it. If the vaccine reduced the spread significantly what happened to the nhl wouldn’t have happened period.

Yeah. Reduces but not to zero so it can still spread. Go to Google Scholar and look up papers on the efficacy of these vaccines. There are a lot of peer reviewed papers that support this claim. Its pretty solid science. Exact numbers are being debated but not that it reduces transmission.

Canada has seriously embarrassed both themselves and the sport of hockey over the last 2 years. Will set the sport back a decade. How can they be expected to be taken seriously and compete with other US sports leagues when they can’t even have their prospect tournament, compete in the Olympics, or even f***ing have home games going into 2022 for a few teams?
You should delete this post. It’s really dumb

No, what's embarrassing is a mod posting what you just did.

I just look at covid stats and see the US as one of the highest death rates per million. Enough said.

The organizers truly blew it. Cancellation is the only answer, but it didn't have to turn out this way. They could have structured this with contingency for a virus that isn't going away just yet (never mind the arguments about the CDC, or they "should have done it like the NFL", not talking about those very different policies).

Swing and a miss on the math, need to times by 100 mate.

Will be interesting to see if they do hold it in Canada in the summer… as a Canadian I would host it in the USA.
I wouldn't hold it in the US.

Hold it in Canada in a complete bubble. Apparently that was the original plan by Hockey Canada BEFORE some nations requested less restrictions!!!

If the consequences of a few positive cases is to cancel the tournament. I would have no issues of holding it in Canada in a bubble.
