Everyone seems to miss the point. It's not about the kids. It's about who they might infect. And who those people might infect. Eventually someone in that chain will end up in the hospital.

The point is to protect hospitals from flooding over. If that happens then there is a huge risk to any person needing hospitalization for any reason. We aren't out of the woods yet. Omicron may be milder in vaxxed populations but the sheer transmissibility of it means it could very well threaten hospitals that don't have the capacity.
Who were they going to infect except each other? They were basically in a bubble, a leaky bubble but still. There is an extreme amount of Omicron spreading going on now, how are these junior hockey players who are locked in a hotel going to affect that? Also the infected players should of course be isolated.

I supported lockdowns etc in the spring of 2020, but what is going on now is silliness.

i agree that we have to realize covid is going to be around forever and learn to live with it, but hospitals getting overwhelmed is still very much a legitimate worry given how many people are still not vaccinated and those are the people ending up in the hospital
Easy, make proof of vaccines a requirement to get into the hospital like we do at Walmart

you said it yourself.."Its there job to limit the spread of covid in general" This includes all activities in Alberta, including this tournament etc

I want a reporter to ask the head of Alberta Health (Hinshaw) if they specifically were 1) ok with the protocols and 2) why wasn't a bubble approved as done before?. All I am saying...The IIHF deserves blame for sure, but I don't they are alone in this..

Bubbles have nothing to do with the health authorities. Not in Alberta, not in Canada, not anywhere I am aware of, and I have been a part of organising several recently. They are an additional measure taken by private organisations to ensure the integrity of an event. They have not been made manditory in any jurisdiction I am aware of because they are cost prohibitive to most and they are not particularly impactful on public health generally.

Its not the health authorities mandate to protect the tournament.

The third dose doesn't eliminate your chances of getting Omicron, but it does mean that if you get Covid your chances of having a severe case are greatly reduced. So if you are thinking of skipping the third shot because of a hockey tournament, maybe think again.

Nice job Alberta Canada! Why the f*** did you ever take on this hughe task with thoose rules you have? Holy shit..... And to also hear that 100 person has been invited to a wedding at the players hotel, that didnt had nothing to do with the players living there, i hope you will suffer hard from this you f***s!

They should've been spending the last two years ramping up for this. No excuses.
Can't argue with that. Our provincial governmemt has been scaling back health care funding and resources for years, and then there is the lack of domestic vaccine production capability.

Lots of blame to go around, no doubt.

Imagine. 2 years into a pandemic and some people still doesn't get it.

The point of getting vaccinated is to stop overwhelming hospitals with unvaccinated people, so we can live a normal life and hold events like the WJC.

But it doesn't work if too many people refuse vaccination. And here we are.

Angry about a disease? Blame people who refuse the cure, not the cure itself.

Except hospitals are apparently still being overwhelmed and some areas are seeing case numbers just as high as during the worst parts of the pandemic. So do you really find it hard to believe people would be skeptical, especially after they’ve been fed lie after lie about how things will go back to normal once the vaccine is out?

We’ve all heard the spin. This is nonsense.
Time to accept we have to coexist, get our vaccines and get back to life. This fear of “hospitals being overwhelmed” is the same BS they started with 2 years ago and I ain’t buying it anymore
I don’t totally disagree, but I also have a hunch you don’t work in a hospital? Hospitals throughout Canada (and the world for that matter) have been overwhelmed at various times throughout the pandemic, just because you can’t see it with your own eyes doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

hospitals are being overwhelmed by unvaccinated people

if you're fully vaccinated it's been time to get on with life for a while now

Yeah I forgot the virus came with a user manual and that politicians were supposed to solve it all.

Fact is the virus is unpredictable. It makes every optimist forecast look bad. How about we blame the virus, instead of blaming health authorities who are working their a** off since 2 years trying to fight it and all of its mutations?

That’s pretty much my point. Everyone was told to get vaccinated to move on with life yet here we are.
