Wait the goalies were rooming together?? lol teams avoid that even when there isn't a pandemic.

Putting the kids in a hotel with the general population when they were having a ****ing wedding party at the same hotel in Red Deer. How does that even happen?

I mean, come on my goodness. Utter stupidity, Tardif should be canned and/or his underlings.

Most of all covid cases before vaccination were also extremely mild. I wouldn't call him lucky, I'd call him typical. That's why they had to test asymptomatic people so often., At leapt 30-40% didn't have ANY symptoms, most others were very mild symptoms before vaccinations.

When there is a significant risk of dying or suffering long term damage, I would call a mild or asymptomatic case lucky.

Downplaying Covid is just as stupid as overreacting to it. The more mild variant and the amazing protection we get from vaccines may well mean its time to stop the quarantine for asymptomatic cases. But to minimise the millions of deaths and even more permanent damage done by covid is just plain insulting.

Airbnb/VRBO's marketing teams are absolutely licking their lips right now

Wow,

Nicely done, IIHF.

Dumbasses.

What a strangely-worded tweet from Bobby Mac, there. :help:

He basically just repeated what Peters said.

Is it just me or does ice hockey attract some of the worst administrators of all in the sporting field ? From the IIHF to the situation here in the UK and numerous other nations.

To my knowledge there is no "approval process" by health authorities for events in canada. And I am somewhat in the know for events. The relevant health authorities set the standards and protocols in general and we have to follow them. I think that's what the IIHF release is saying. But that is irrelevant.

The health authorities protocols are not intended to have a successful hockey tournament. They are intended to limit the spread of covid. The IIHF could have enforced a "bubble" which really isn't a public health matter but rather a way to keep the tournament from being cancelled.
its not really irrelevant though...The health authorities should have said the protocols were not good enough; come up with a better plan. They didn't.

Anyway, the whole thing is disappointing. Have a great day

Just to say it: I wonder how much the blowback from canceling the women's upcoming IIHF tournament factored into this? I.e., how sensitive were they to looking like they were going all out to keep a male junior tournament going while unilaterally canceling a female one? Politics and social issues seem to factor into everything these days, I wouldn't be surprised if there were discussions along these lines.

Being in Red Deer....that is one wedding nobody will admit to being part of ;)

This tournament was supposed to be some of these kids best hockey memories. They did everything they were told to and still got screwed. Just awful.

Feel bad for the players and those that were working the event. Cases were going to happen. All the more so with a much more transmissible variant. With the way this was set up it was doomed to fail.

They’ll have to better figure things out for next year or that one will just get cancelled too. Of course doesn’t help the guys that won’t be eligible next year, but such is how it goes.

Getting a concussion is much worse than getting covid for a young person IMO. Time to cancel hockey.

Also the Omicron variant is probably the best thing that could have happened to this pandemic, mostly just regular cold symptoms for 99 % of people. So the tournament was basically cancelled because someone got the sniffles.

It's based on being a white, sheltered, suburban women.
.....and that’s who you’re angrily defending here? Good for you. Of all the people on the planet they’ve certainly suffered enough. They shouldn’t also have to suffer the K word ever being thrown around either. It’s probably the most hurtful slur there is.

My personal feeling is that the cancellation of the women’s tournament really didn’t factor into canceling the WJHC. I believe the women’s tournament is not a huge money maker, while World Juniors brings lots of money. So it’s not due to the optics of canceling women’s while letting a male tournament proceed.
