This is going to get lost in the noise but this is my take:

-This was the right call, but they were dumb to even have the tournament right now, they should have moved it into the spring/summer

-Why are people mentioning vaccines? This result has nothing to do with vaccines. It's all about transmitting, and 4 players will turn into 20+ before you know it, just look at the NHL.

-At the end of the day, because many of these players are under 20, some are not even adults, they're going to take the precautionary route and good on them, I'd want that for my son.

Have at it.

Yes, I learned that it wasn't harmless and have mentioned that I have learned from my mistake. No need to be condescending.

I guess HFBoards has a quoting culture. Personally I think quoting several posts is tedious so I didn't do it, especially because there were definitely some recent messages that referred to what I was saying so I felt like it was a waste of effort.

I think the kids call it "show your work" when asked to provide examples (or details) around a statement.

But it's tough for me to keep up with all the kids sayings these days.

I was responding to your first post where you questioned health authorities approve a tourney. That is the reality in Canada now
I'm sure more will come out in the next few days, but I'm pretty sure health authorities approved the IIHF plan so that is why I'm saying no one is blameless here....

Update: BTW, the IIHF just released a formal statement, the protocols were put in place by IIHF, Alberta Health and the Public Health Agency of Canada. So the health officials approved the protocols. Its puzzling to me they approved protocols that were doomed to fail...

To my knowledge there is no "approval process" by health authorities for events in canada. And I am somewhat in the know for events. The relevant health authorities set the standards and protocols in general and we have to follow them. I think that's what the IIHF release is saying. But that is irrelevant.

The health authorities protocols are not intended to have a successful hockey tournament. They are intended to limit the spread of covid. The IIHF could have enforced a "bubble" which really isn't a public health matter but rather a way to keep the tournament from being cancelled.

Thank you Hockey Canada & IIHF for no bubble. And who the f*** was responsible for locating teams in hotels with ordinary guests??? I`m pretty sure thats where the positive covids came from! How f***ing hard would it have been to book the whole hotel and have every team on their own floors???
There's a bunch of ridiculous comments on here, this here is the #1 reason why it is being cancelled, stupid, idiotic IIHF....Put them in a bubble!

1. Quoting several posts is tedious
2. The posts that I was referring to were readily available and more were coming
3. If I quote those people, I would get even more replies especially from the people I'm quoting and I'd be dragged into even more arguments that I don't care about

Feels bad for the players. Lots of blame to go around but ultimately I feel horrible for those guys who this was maybe their own opportunity to play in this tourny.

so whats the point of getting vaccined?

Ask the vulnerable and the elderly. And those that have lost their nearest and dearest as a result of this pandemic. In the grand scheme of things sport comes a long way down the list.

However the organization by the IIHF has been shambolic in not keeping teams protected. Just play in a bubble with secure hotels and practice facilities and no crowds disappointing as that may be. It's not just the fans that miss out but also the players for many of whom it will be their last time to shine in the international spotlight at this level. By next year things should be much better but take nothing for granted.
